2016 Scream And Fly Guitar Thread!
The previous post became corrupt and had to be removed. I am not sure why, but I had to start this over.My main guitar right now is my Gibson Les Paul Custom Lite. I absolutely love this guitar. I've always liked Les Paul guitars, and the Custom Lite is a fantastic guitar because of its unique design features. The Custom Lite has a thinner body than a traditional Les Paul as well as a contour inside the body like a Stratocaster. Despite the name, it is only about one pound lighter than a standard model Les Paul. The Custom Lite was originally introduced in 1987, and then reissued in 2014. I had a 1987 Custom Lite and sold it, ironically, to pay for a major forum software update here on Scream And Fly back in 2010. Ever since, I missed it and when Gibson announced that they were reissuing it, I had to have it again.

And what made this model very appealing was the price. When these were released in 2014, it had a street price of $1200. I also had a 10%-off coupon for Sam Ash, and so I was able to get a brand new Custom Lite for about $1100, which was amazing. I added a Gibson TP-6 fine-tuner tailpiece. The toggle switch is a factory-installed coil-splitter. This guitar sounds as good as any other Les Paul I've owned, in every regard. Some people claim that the thinner body will have a negative effect on tone or sustain but I've never noticed it.
I play this one every day. It's almost like a best friend. When I need to pull myself away from the computer for a few minutes, this guitar is waiting. Gibson once again reissued the Custom Lite, but they're priced higher now. Still a very good price I think, but when they were $1200, I felt it was an incredible price for an amazing guitar.

I had to remove the previous thread - it seems there was data corruption in it, and so it had to go, and I started this over. I'm sorry for losing the replies.

Thank you for the compliment - I absolutely love that Les Paul. It just fits like a glove.
I love that Banjo! I really, really want to learn to play one. I just don't have the finesse needed for finger-picking. Do you have recordings of your playing?

The finish work on those guitars is just awesome.
I look at them at the music stores.
Never any banjos to look at.!
I've been playing less than a year.
Newbie for sure.
I did post a video on my FB page back in
January when I was learning Foggy Mountain Breakdown.
It's on my Fender 5 string.

What an amazing collection! I am so jealous of your PC-1! And you own the most desirable color too. That is a beautiful guitar and I am so envious. I love that Destroyer, too.
Best of luck with those beauties and thank you for posting them. That PC-1 is giving me guitar-envy in a major way now.

This is my daily practice guitar. I use this one for basically everything to do with practice and also a lot of recording. It's an Ibanez 25th Anniversary RG and one of the nicest playing guitars I've ever owned. I keep this one set up to perfection and it almost plays itself. It sounds fantastic too - the two pickups it has are [bridge] Dimarzio Deactivator and [neck] Dimarzio Air Norton. I usually do not like super high-output pickups but these really sound very good; nice and level across the tone range with no harshness. They're great for recording. This guitar is my workhorse, and I keep it tuned to E-flat.

Those are some cool guitars!
I like the light weight LP's. I got a Gibson BFG Les Paul a while back and love the sound of it and the look.
I did change the pickups; SD PearlyGates in the bridge and a SD Custom in the neck.
This pic is from the eBay auction I got it from. I'll try and post some pics of some of my collection later. I picked up a cool aluminum Strat.
EDIT: found this X-Ray pic of a BFG that shows how hollowed out they are.

Here are a couple of guitars I bought for investments to sell when I turn 65. With the state of the economy I decided to invest some of my money in stocks and some into non-stock market items. So here are two guitars I bought in hopes I'll make some money on them when I sell them; plus I can play them from time to time.
The first is an odd Fender Strat where the body is made out of aluminum. This is a 40th Anniversary Strat too. It's a hollow aluminum body, not solid.
Here is an article on the Aluminum Strats.--->http://www.vintageguitar.com/1834/fender-aluminum/
This one is a 1974 20th Anniversary Les Paul Custom. These 20th Anniv. models was the first time in Gibson's history to make an anniversary model guitar. This one is 100% original down to the "fretless wonder" frets.

Its nothing fancy, just an old Stinger SSX but it was my very first electric guitar I got about 24 years ago. I had gotten it from a friend who had it for a number of years before me. I did a full resto on it about 2 years ago. Before that it was that typical 90's turquoise/teal green and I had a huge AC/DC decal on it. Got rid of all of then, stripped it down, gave it a fresh gun metal grey paint job, all new knobs, pick ups, and some other junk. Some may say it wasnt worth it but to me, it was what I learned to really play on and what really started it for me. I always say, cant put a price an sentiment. Sure I will have this for as long as i'm alive.
I dont have any pictures at the moment of my other guitars handy.Last edited by Hippie459MN; 04-18-2016 at 05:43 PM.

Kevin, it look like you did a fanstatic job refinishing your guitar!
One of my favorite guitars to play is a Schecter C-1 Classic. I only paid 300 dollars for it and it plays as good as any guitar I've played.
A used made in Mexico Fender Strat can be bought for around 200 bucks and with a set of used American Fender pickups sounds/plays as good as an American made Strat.
I got the BFG Les Paul for around 650.00 and it plays great. I'd love to have a PRS with one of those beautiful quilt maple tops but they are way too expensive for my blood. I know someone who has one of the 3k dollar PRS and the action and playability isn't any better than several of the guitars I have that cost way less than what he payed for it.
The expensive guitars I have are for investments and I got them all bellow what they usually sell for.
If it plays good and ya enjoy it that's what matters.Last edited by CDave; 04-23-2016 at 02:17 AM.

Alright, who remembers this guitar from the Miami Boat Show a few years back? At this show, Mercury Remanufacturing was giving away a custom painted Fender Strat Standard. I entered the contest and I wanted this guitar so badly. Alas, I did not win, and I never found out who won it.
Fred Kiekhaefer showed me some custom Mercury guitar picks that day as well, and they also had a flame design on them. He actually gave me his, which I still have of course. I keep it right on my desk and no, I don't use it. I'll take a photo of that later today.

Haven't been playing much the last couple of years unfortunately, but retirement is on the horizon, and I'm gunna be ready!
I've accumulated a couple of special-to-me Strats, a Tele and Les Paul Standard......and most recently a '60's Vox Bulldog.
Back in my '60's garage band days, our lead guitarist was fortunate enough to own one. I picked one up in reasonable shape
off of FleaBay and proceeded to renew.....somebody along the way chucked the zero-fret nut, so my luthier did some reconstruction.
EKO, an Italian company built these for Vox. Definite Mosrite influence for sho!
..just chillin', whatnot, tryin' to maintain, you know !

Greg, that Merc strat is frickin' sweet. Maybe Randy could paint one for ya?
Mikiedreb, that is cool Vox guitar; never seen one like that before. Those pickups look kinda like Lego's.-----------------------
