We did some tapping and poking around in there and it appears to be. No visible damage ...
It's not very thick. Barely 1 1/2". Thinkin I might beef it up inboard with a piece of material behind the new stringers and knees. Figure that should prevent any problems?

Got the knees cut out, ready to laminate. Need to pick up some resin tomorrow.
Many thanks to Dago for the 3/8" Nidacore. Three 2 x 4 sheets and one with a tiny rectangle off of one corner. More than enough for the floor and to beef up the transom. Much appreciated Mike!!
Looks like I have plenty of biax and mat. WooHoo!Last edited by 71V153; 04-17-2016 at 08:43 PM.

Sadly not. Was goin good til I wound up in the hospital again with this friggin diverticulitis.
The C500 is in my buddy's shop now. This boat is next.
Did scrounge up a running '79 flat back 115 w/good compression. Need to go through it and add my spare bubble butt exhaust, etc. That'll go on the Baja after we swap my 140 over to this one.'71 Glastron V153 - Composite rebuild - Unceremoniously wrecked

Oh sorry to hear you been in the hospital. hope everything goes ok for you.
will the bubble back exhaust make much difference to the motor ? I mean is this a very noticeable gain ?
I know the difference to look at, but never realy got into knowing exactly what is inside them.
My friend has a1977 Johnson 140 model ML77s that has the bubble back and the special tuner, I had the Johnson 85hp flat back.
also know its a pain to do the thermostats with the bubble in the way !!

I had an 83' 16ft speedcraft, canary yellow.. put new stringers and full height knee braces in but the orig balsa core was unharmed at 15 yrs old.. It weighed around 370lbs (est 340-350 new) with a very solid running surface after the redo..Originally the boat belonged to Tommy & bobby sanders (Da Bull) had a 2.6 liter 235hp omc on alcohol, I put a warmed over 140 evinrude on it and later a 260 cut steel sleeve 2.5 merc.. boat was very quick and a breeze to drive..
Just don't over trim it, you won't go any faster and if ever it gets a lung full of air you're gonna have an interesting day.. I often miss that boat, to drive it felt like wearing it.. Very natural feel to those hills..Kevin Kiser

Agreed on every aspect of that - super easy boat to drive once its set up properly - almost feels like its on rails. I had mine set up with a 12" 245 and it felt like it handled the same at 60 and at 100. I had mine weighed once it was done and with beefed up knees and a double stringer running down the center it came in at 374lbs with the seat and gas tank.
