Hi Rob ... Like you and your family, I ski ... It is what I do. I have never skied behind a Donzi 16, although I have seen a lot of them. I don't think I have ever seen one with a pylon? Only a tow cleat, in which case even my buck sixty lightweight could pull all over the place.
After skiing and owning many boats, I have found the perfect ski boat ... I don't want anything else. It is a 1985 eighteen foot Avenger.
Like you I seek a quiet and smooth ride. I have always thought my OB was one of the quieter boats out there. I am rather flat bottom. My solution? I ski only on the river during the weekdays (no traffic). I demand glass.
My boat always tracks straight, although some of my bigger ski buddies do pull the speed up and down, but not side to side. My barefoot friends (not me) love it. This thing takes off like a slingshot. I am running a high five prop and top out at 48MPH.
Before you get the Donzi, figure out how you could mount a pylon. It would make all the difference in handling with a skier back there.
Remember the most important thing ... Have fun out there!!
P.S. My boat looks way cool .......... Dave

I like your Avenger, great looking boat. I have an '88 MasterCraft ProStar 200 with a 200XRi. Most of the Comp Ski Boats will not be good in rough water. The MasterCrafts are full composite Stringers and floors starting with late 1983 (most other mfgs switched over in the early to mid 90's). If you see an inboard you like check to see if Fresh Air Exhaust is available for that particular boat. That will cut down measurably on the exhaust sound (used often on wake surf boats to reduce exhaust fumes for the surfer).
The ProStar 200's are somewhat hard to find. They track very well with the pylon placement and having two tracking fins. The later Barefoot 200 is a great boat.Last edited by orbeamlb; 03-23-2016 at 07:34 PM.

Once you have skied behind a true tow boat inboard you will never be happy skiing behind anything else. Getting in and out of water will be a pain need big swim platform, and a smooth constant pull, you can only get with ski boat trust me that's why you need two boats
