1992 Evinrude 60 help
I have a 1992 Evinrude 60hp can anyone tell if it's true that I can put 70hp carburetors on my motor & turn it into a 70hp? <br>

From what I've read on internet - 70hp carbs on my 56ci 60hp will make it a 70hp but with less low end torque than a true 70 but more upper rpm than a true 70 because of exhaust tuner is shorter, is this true? And they say any 70 carb will work is this true or is it a certain year & hp carbs to look for?<br>

My boat is only rated for 70hp & I can't fish the bass tournaments if I have a larger than 70 on my boat this why I'd like to squeeze as much as I can from the 60, and I can't find much on the internet about getting more from the 56ci motors, If it's even worth the trouble and just leave the 60 a 60 but it would be nice to have a 60 motor that runs like a 70 or more hp!<br>

Boat Setup
Boat is a 1992 Bass Tracker TX17 motor has 6" set back & 3" jack up, 4 blade Predator prop. Boat & Prop can handle a little more hp & rpm. I don't know if I can jack any more because running a straight edge of bottom of hull my prop blades are above the pad about 1/4 of a blade, the water ports are just inches below pad or will I be fine jacking it to center of prop from pad because of the set back?

Block, cylinder head, exhaust tuner are all the same part number between the 60 and 70. Carbs are larger on the 70 which hurts low end but helps top.
Before you start with motor height install a water pressure gauge. Set back does allow for more height but positive trim angles can decrease height you can run. At neutral trim you should be able to run with the top water hole even and be safe, but a pressure gauge should still be installed.

Thanks with setup help I know getting this right will help get me more speed & run in shallower water.
I'll run straight edge again and give the actual measurements how sits now.

I would get for the same year model as what you have, that way you know its right.

I've been looking on eBay and don't see any around my year model, I've seen some newer than mine and was wondering what's the best 70hp carbs OMC made, there maybe a better model than my year motor 70 carbs.

Mine need some work done and if I can find a good set of 70hp carbs I'd rather get them & get a few extra hp in the process.

Any of the carbs from the 56er 70hp carbs will work, your looking for carbs with a Venturi of 1.25. The later model ones do improve low speed operation and idle, no change in mid range or top enD.

What year did the 56er start?? 1985?
I thought I've read the 60hp carbs are 1.25 & 70hp are 1.5 Venturi?
Is there anything else I can do to up hp like a high compression head, like get a stinger or hustler head or can a machine shop shave this one down if can shave it how many thousands to take off it, I'm sure it's been done & tried before or do I just look for a certain head and be better?
i know more air/fuel in and more compression = more power in any engine.

Pretty sure 86 is when the permanent mold 56 cube bridge port started they switched to lost foam around 90 then switched to lost foam oval ports around 93-94. Any way you'll want 1.5" throat carbs I've never really heard of one set being much better then any of the others so get what you can find. Huslter and stinger heads won't fit since they're 49 cube motors but you can find a sst60 head or just shave yours to sst60 specs which I think is 28.5cc most stock heads are between 32-35cc depending on the model. Not sure what head you have so not sure ho many thousandths to take off to get to 28.5 cc's. Heard of guys running as little as 19cc heads but I think once you get one shaved down to around 24cc's you have to add material to get the cc's lower plus your into high octane or race gas blends at that point. For a fishing motor I wouldn't go under 28cc's.

Mine is stock 1992 Evinrude 60.
and man thanks for such detailed info!! Yeah it's just a fishing boat but I would like to make it the fastest running running 56er I can without running race fuel. I use 98 octane gas period anyway. The boat the motor is on is a bass tracker tx17 aluminum bass boat specs say it's around 1500lbs with the 60hp motor. The motor is on a plate & has 6" setback & 3" jackup I ran a long aluminum straight edge along to bottom of hull pad and set motor with top prop blades about a 1/4 of blade above straight edge and water ports are a couple inches below boat pad line, I didn't know if I should go higher but with the 6" setback I may be able too I just played it safe and set it so water ports was still showing below pad line.
I was thinking of getting Boysen reeds but I was told by a boat shop mechanic they not that great for a everyday motor that if motor spits back it will destroy the Boysen reeds & I wouldn't see or feel a power gain with them on the 60hp or 70hp motor and I'd be better off with factory style reeds???? Maybe he was wrong about them??

I forgot prop pitch and I'd have to pull it off to see, numbers are not on the outside but it is a stainless 4 blade Predator prop.
