Also, who here hasn't spent at least 1k for a few horsepower? SVS, Brucato box, High compression heads, etc? I would say 3k for an increase from 260 to 400hp is quite reasonable in terms of the alternatives it would take to do the same by yourself.

Why compare anything to a new Mercury block??? Unless you want a fishing motor, 3 liter or 4 stroke there aren't any. I think a NOS Drag block went for $9500 last year. This is an alternative that has not been available AND will probably be like owning 2-3 blocks because of the replaceable sleeves. That is huge.

What was the price difference between a merc 200 and an S3000 back in the 90's? For the most part, they are the same engine in terms of production costs but the one is probably at least double the price. How about the price differences in any of the new 3L or SHO's? Same story there.
pucks? It takes pennys to make them on cnc, yes pennies. Put those 400hp "pucks" on a 250hp motor and see how much power u make. Compression and squish angle/chamber has nothing to do with the hp . There are 100 things that have to be changed on a 200 block to make it close to a drag. Mercury did their homework and they have run the show for years but now they have "taken their toys out of the sandbox".

The real story of the 300 was some Hillbilly's in Tenn. opened things up ... Merc copied

But yes it is a VERY good design, just tweeked by some country Boyz , to make it better...

And NOW taken to a whole new level !

Thats a pretty good deal, seem to recall price on a 96 Pro Max was around that number retail in 97.
