The Rebirth of a 30' Velocity Race Deck

This earley 30' Velocity started life as a twin staggered raceboat. The boat has been gutted and will be rebuilt to run tripple Mercury Outboard power. The boat will serve as both a pleasure boat and race boat in the future. The extended cockpit will have 4 standup bolsters and a rear bench seat. The second set of bolsters will be removeable so a race hatch can be installed when needed to cover the area behind the front bolsters. The cabin will contain the batteries to help keep the CG as centered as possible. We will document our progress and keep you posted. Here are some beginning shots of the boat and the transom being filled in:

Here are more shots of new stringers and transom knees being installed. The transom knees are massive in order to support the stress of tripple outboard power in race conditions:

The deck is getting a brand new race fairing built out of Coosa Board. The dash has been filled in and new dash pods will be glassed in place to allow dual helm stations. A new removable Coosa board dash panel will be built in the fairing to hold all new Monster gages.

Here's a few more shots. You can see PVC pipe drainage to the floor running along the center stringer and the filled in dash holes. Also, here are pictures of the original race hatches with the scoops removed and being filled in:

I might have to steal some ideas from my buddy, Jupiter Pulsare, so I can build a nice cabin to rest in after each race! lmao!

I will run P3 with SBI. They have more Fl. Races. It is a 95mph bracketed class. If it doesn't run that fast it will be for sale. Lol!!!

I am setting the boat up as a 3.0 liter platform. Custom Stainless Marine bracket with jack plates. I have 3.0 liter offshore mids and light weight cowlings and sportmaster lower units. I have 3 99 pro max power heads and 2 3.2 stroker drop ons. Not sure which one will be better to race with until I test.

30 Velocity with triple Merc 3 litre's on jackplates, on a full width, full length bracket, to race offshore...hmmm. Batteries in the cabin or not, this will not be a balanced package for the rough. Twin high horsepower 3 litre's would be much more usable & just about as fast in the rough. What might work in calm water, is 180 degree's from what works in the gulfstream.

Exactly. 12" set back bracket. Custom fuel tanks (just picked up from Tom Foley). The tanks are all shifted forward. Three tanks. One forward center and two aft that stop 3 feet short of transom mounted on either side of kielson stringer. Batteries in cabin in custom built boxes. Because of the staggered motors this deck is more forward then the old outboard race deck. This will help cg also. I have been hanging outboard brackets since the early 80's and would never put a full length bracket on this hull. I used to race a 30 in the early to mid 80's with trip first year 2.4 offshore motors and the outboard deck. It ran 87 back then with really old technology. I have faith in the boat and hope it runs good enough to race. If not poker runs are in the future.

Built a few dozen triple engine 30 Velocity's myself. Your asking a lot out of that old 3/8" end-grain balsa bottom, 1/2'' plywood stringer boat, to support all that, lol. May the force be with you.

    Killer!

One of the all time best V bottoms.

Sounds like a 100 MPH boat to me.

    Love it!
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.
