agree with Bobby an this one, anything that can play with timing will soone or later be an issue. If you feel the need to keep the box's or take them . First thing I would do is a complete link and sync starting at square one, making sure the timing marks are accurate. After you set everything in the exact order the manual states. Take it to water and check idle timing and speed in gear, only change pick up timing do not touch the throtle stop screw. If it don't run then start looking for oddball stuff. JMO most the time if the baisics are done right things work out.
Unless you have a real good understanding of how things work best to follow the book to tee.

rereading your 1st post TPI should not read .026 it should read with the digital meter set at 2 volts .250 or a 1/4 of a volt +/- .050 , check you fuel pressure regulator if its below 34 lbs at idle that maybe your culprit all the box technology is 20 year old stuff i would lose them all be happy

Thank you all for your help. I removed the detonation and timing advance modules and it runs better than ever!!! I ran it yesterday morning and the temp was around 40 degrees. It had a little trouble starting but once it warmed up it was fine. Before removing the modules the most I could get on the top end was around 5200 RPMs. Now I'm around 5800 RPMs and it gets there quick. One other question. Is there a way to wire up a choke for this motor? Thanks again!

it should have one already in the harness the yellow red stripe wires on the left side of the starter solenoid one is starup volts the other runs the choke system on a efi just push the key in while cranking it over

The enrichment should be hooked to the S terminal on the starter solinoid. So when cranking you get extra fuel, make sure you pump up the primer ball till firm with the motor full down and just turn the key on for a couple seconds then turn key off. Then try to start 40deg is pretty cool to fire right up.

The choke worked when I had a 97 Mariner 115 but now I get nothing when I push the key. I've read where some EFI's have choke and some don't?

If you want the push the key enrichment feature you have to hook the yel/red that normally stock is on the S terminal at the soliniod " the one that comes from the ECU" to the yel/blk that comes from the key harness. Done it on horn motors so they start better hot but never found the need on Laser style.

oh I understand now. Where/how would you make the termination? I don't want to splice or butcher anything too much.

ive never seen a efi with out this hooked up ?? yellow black is a carburetor feature, yellow red is enrichment for efi, you can take it off if your getting too much fuel it will stop flooding or at least by my testin and tuning

Yup my Bridgeport was POS to start hot because the ECU enrichment was hooked to the S terminal on the solinoid. So everytime I cranked it over it went to cold enrichment. So I took the yel/red from the ECU and hooked it to the yellow/blk that would normally go to the primer on a carb motor. That left me in charge of the enrichment, cold or hot. If need enrichment push in the key when cranking.

I know this is an old post but hopefully someone has an answer for me. I have a 98 225 EFI motor and im trying to figure out if i should do this "push to choke enrichment" or if its even necessary for my motor. I only see one yellow and red wire on my starter solenoid and to me it looks like if I were to clip it then the ignition switch switch wont work. any thoughts would be very helpful.
