Why are ETec G2 H.O. Motors selling for less than the older Etec H.O.'s ?
example
2015 Evinrude E-tec 250H.O. 15K
2015 Evinrude E-tec G2 250H.O. 13K
Both with comparable hours and condition.. Is there a problem with the new G2 motors?

Skills required to work on a G2 are about them as a G1... Gotta have a basic understanding of the engine, diag, special tools, and access to dealer support website (bossweb) also helps.
I personally haven't seen any used G2's in my area/market yet alone what they are going for. But as far as buying a brand new G2, the base price between a comparable hp G2 and G1 engines aren't to far apart. The killer is rigging cost. G1's use push-pull shift/throttle, use the same boat harness since the mid 90's, you can hook them up a most analog marine guages... G2's however are all new and its all digital($$$$). They use their very own boat harness, electronic shift/throttle (control boxes/foot throttles are $$$), you have to use one of the available touch screen displays($$$) in order to be able to use all the different engine functions... So in order to repower a boat (even it already has a Johnrude on the transom) all the rigging gotta be changed, and its gonna cost a few bucks! So maybe that is effecting the resale on these new G2's? I know the rigging costs has deterred a few from buying new ones.Dan Cario

New technology is always interesting and we all like the possibility of better gas mileage along with performance. But until the ETEC gets enough people involved (corp. or independent) to offer more HP upgrade parts to be accessed and at reasonable cost, I can't see many going this route over Yamaha and Mercury.

I really think that the cosmetics are going to take time to get used to. They are changing what people think an Outboard Motor should look like. You don't change 25 years of one look in a couple of years. Personally, I can't warm up to the cosmetics at all. I think the alien cowl is about the best looking lid ever but the G2 will be fine over time if it holds up to a beating.

A long time friend in FL is a large Evinrude dealer, since the late 1980s. He has been one of the largest Evinrude repower dealers in FL for many years now. He echoes your sentiments Dan. His repower market will go away if all he has are G2s to sell. He still sells a lot of "G1" E-Tecs, but he has since taken on Tohatsu to shore up sales. I don't blame him one bit. BRP needs to listen to their dealers and listen to the market. Yamaha, Merc and Suzuki own the market. That's not the way it was less than two decades ago, if BRP ever hopes to get back to where OMC once was they need to sharpen their pencils. The market does not exist in a vacuum; it's had 15 years of "four strokes good and reliable, two strokes bad and smelly". A huge mountain to overcome.

Yes, even in some cases close to 6k... Their are a few options for the touch screen displays and accessories that can really add up. If you do run multiple engines, the cost per engine goes down because they all can get wired through a common network and the larger touch screen displays can handle multi-engine setups. That is one nice feature on Evinrudes ICON system if your rigging 2+ engines on a transom their usually isn't as much physical wiring. You have spend some time configuring the network buts its fairly simple once you do it a time or too.
