Merc in line 6 detective help needed

Got several inline 6 blocks that I need-to identify. they are listed below with all the particulars that I can find on them:

Block #1 casting number 852-6450 distributor block, Not power ported No serial number

Block #2 - casting number 852-5591 - Not power ported, Serial number 4314369 - also a distributor motor

Block #3 -Casting number 852-7738- NON Power ported block- ADI ignition - A995294 stamped in the freeze plug on intake side of the block

    Block #4 - Casting number 852-7738 - Power ported block - serial number 6527975 - distributor motor

Block #5 - casting number 852-7738 - Power ported block - Distributor motor - no other numbers

I got an idea on a few of these but would appreciate others to offer their opinion on them.

    thanks very much

OK, what did you decide on the 852-7738 blocks, I have a blue stripe, long shaft 150 horse with a 852-7738 block, no serial number distributor ignition. The only number where the serial number goes is a stamped 7704, how did you end up with a 852-7738 block that wasn't power ported???? Also, what do you consider the mosquito coast, have family in Jacksonville, do you give tours???

I have a #2 on your list. I am in restore mode now, serial number on mid is 4126422. It's a 1975 150 J Block Short shaft with no serial number stamped on the block. Must have been a warranty replacement, but it does have the J stamped on it under the casting number.. Blue Stripe motor with louvered cowl, etc...

Have not dis assemble the block yet, but all else is apart. .082 Main Jets in 1-2-3.

Distributor Ignition...just in case anyone is looking, I found a source for Distributor bearings Dirt Cheap. Don't have it in front of me right now. Less than 12$ for a set...actually have a spare set as I bought 2 of each they were so cheap and figured someone may need a set.

Not sure exactly what your looking for information wise though....?

    HTH some...

I have a 852-7738 engine and no serial number, have looked all over that thing for a serial number, any way, I was wondering if Tom Smyth made any decisions on the 852-7738 blocks. Also was wondering if he offered tours of his collection, will be down in Jacksonville for Daytona Bike Week visiting family??? Just ordered a starter off ebay to check compression on this 150

The casting numbers can be the same for 90,115, 1500 or XS . Same block just different port milling .

    4314369 is a '75 115. '75 150's don't start until 4319880; '75 115's start with 4310785. Agrees with not being power ported.

Should that read "1976" 150's start at 4319880? Or did I read it wrong?

    General Information:

    • This model was painted all "Phantom Black."
    • The serial number was on a plate riveted to the swivel bracket above and between the clamp screws.
    • Serial numbers 3752620 thru 4121434 were 1974 models.
    • Serial numbers 4121435 thru 4319879 were 1975 models.
    • Serial numbers 4319880 thru 4602011 were 1976 models.
    • Merc 1500EL (Long Shaft, Electric Starting with Alternator) models were produced and Merc 1500 ELPT (Long Shaft, Electric Starting with factory installed Power Trim) were also produced in these years.
    • Merc 1500E (Short Shaft, Electric Starting with Alternator) models were produced in 1974 & 1975.

Totally forgot about this thread. Got these blocks in a deal and was trying to determine what they were if possible.
