ProMax 150 power upgrade?
I remember reading many years ago that a ProMax 150 could be modified relatively easily to have power similar to its 225 brother. What upgrades would be necessary for this? Would it be possible to have similar power and reliability from this engine as a 225? Are there still builders out there willing to do these modifications? Max HP ratings on my boat are the reason why I'm asking.

its a tall order to go from 150 pm to 225pm fronts would have to change from 5 to 7 petal change ecu work on exhaust divider a bunch of porting add some rod slots ive owned two 150 pmaxs both were pretty much gutless compared to a 200 efi it would be easier to go from a stock 200 then 150 buy a 225 already done, sell the one fitty ill have a 2000 model225 power head in a few weeks its getting remained 6 new sleeves and standard bore pistons probably wsm 1.5mm ringed ones

So it would be a straight forward swap 225 PM powerhead/ecu on to a PM 150 body? Any other swaps needed? Would like to keep the 150 s/n for insurance purposes.

just the exhaust adapter it has big exhaust holes which i also have you would have to keep your upper solid mounts and put them in the big hole adapter midsections are basically identical might need another gear case like a coned torqmaster which is my favorite on my Bullet ive run sportys and cle and coned fishing mota gear-cases fishing mota caes coned is fast just not quite as beefy

yeah, it CAN be done but $ per $ it ain't worth it imo... tha block is justa plain jane XR6/EFI 150 naked production block ya "startin' with" so ya gotta have a lotta "faith" in your machinist ... if it was justa "bolt on" deal like most are lead ta believe, then yeah but its not.. your call.
alrighty mostly Bobby.. doin' a little carpentry, caulkin', paintin' in between naps n workin' a tad 3 ta 4 days a week... was headed ta Phoenix but got ta feelin' like crap last coupla days.. sure not liken it!Last edited by tlwjkw; 11-07-2015 at 08:23 PM.

Wow Tommy hope you get to feeling better when ya get 70 it dont take a lot to get out of whack just ask me . you are so right ive seen so many guys get talked into pumpin up them little motors, it cost a ton and aint worth a hoop, you know the drill well lets cut the heads, then lets add some bigger jets ,now lets add some hot rod reeds ok we need a tuner now , then its you know what this thing needs some porting on those .003 out of round cylinders then it lets just bore it out or maybe just put some 200 sleeves in it but now we gotta cone the lower unit , ive lived every phase of that story over the last couple decades, i took a short cut in 1995 and bought a brand new 225 pmax on a new bullet and took a second job to pay for it . i had this 80 plus mph right out of the wrapper boat but i still spent every dime i could get playing with all that stuff i mentioned with other rigs i had lasers, Allison even had a stv and a,lot of other pos boats i did all kinds of stuff to them it was fun, it was expensive but best bang for the buck buy the biggest baddest mota you cant afford you will be happy

Good and spot on info above. Sell the 150 and get the 225!
Also get the correct plate just make sure the mounts and seats on the plate are not worn!

pro max 150 should already be the 2.5 liter?
going from 150 to 200 should be doable (5 petal reed plate )
cutting the exhaust tuner shorter
as for porting ?Last edited by PanRonnie; 11-08-2015 at 10:04 AM.

i knew what you meant and so do most all motor guys , Tony builds some of the nicest Promaxs ive ever seen but i dont think he will start from a one fitty though there are some double bad one fittys out there most of those are built by guys who can do the changes and not have it done by someone else . PS any good port man removes all his sleeves ports them and then puts them back
