Looking good, and the light height is right. I have 4 benches with 4 foot above lights. Just right. But have 2 benches with as 3 shelf's above, the light is only 30 inches off the benches. Works fine me, but at night as eye level blinds me looking at the shelves. It all the little stuff "I shouda"? Ya got a "blank canvas...GO FOR IT!"

May add 2 more over head fluorescents when done but will wait and see. Guessing insides of the new doors will be white and once hung they'll uncover the corner walls I built for them that are also white.
Easy to get enough light for a work bench but for glass work and painting......, there's no such thing.

gary , If you make a shelf over your bench make a box with your 2x6 or 2x8 cover the top with plywood paint inside and out . Mount your lights in the box , they hide the lights , harder to break and looks good also shines more light down on the bench .Gives you a ton of shelf that takes a lot of weight .......

    Thanks guys.

Frank, love your idea. Don't really need the shelf space but would give me a "roof" to hand a curtain around to enclose the bench area and heat it.

Bench top is sheet metal I had formed to cover my 1 1/2" thick wood surface. Always wanted one after soaking wood w/oil, snagging block studs while porting, etc, etc.
Only regret is not spending the extra $$ and doing stainless. I have to keep coating it w/diluted 2 stroke to keep it from surface rusting in the damp air.

Also, always wanted a bench long enough to do it all. At 16' I think I'm there

    Headway.

Pic 4 is rear w/last remaining sliding door open, showing hole waiting on wall to be built.
Pic 3 is of the 2 x 6's reclaimed from dismantling first three sliding doors.
Pic 1 is inside of opening at door 4, framed for wall using reclaimed lumber. Horizontal pc's are inside of door #4 which was closed to hold in heat (15* outside) while I built wall.
Pic 5 is w/R-19 insulation installed.
Pic 2 is front w/new overhead doors and stub/corner wall's installed. Stub walls are sided w/siding from dismantled doors.

Was interesting working today that as I built and insulated that wall, my heater ran less and less.
120K BTU heater has a thermostat on it and was set at 50* and stayed off longer and ran less. For grins I set it to 60 and the heater caught up and shut off!
    Love it.
While still having gaps around the new doors until I install the weather stripping.

My goal w/this project was being able to heat the shop well enough to work in it this winter. W/the project still not finished, I couldn't be happier.

A tip to anyone considering building a barn, spend as much as you can at the start. The labor I invested to dismantle and salvage the doors, build the 4 walls, etc, etc would have cost a fortune if I had to pay someone to do it and took time I could have spent making money/doing something else.
Plus doing it myself...., that wall is 12' tall, and the header across the top is 16' wide. Could have easily turned ugly.
