2.4L BP Heads Question
I bought a 2.4L 200 back in March this year and STILL trying to get a running mota out of this deal. The heads got dinged up pretty bad when the piston rings let go on the first run and I am now trying to clean up the heads to make them useful. I CC'd the chambers to 35.97cc on the average... some higher, some lower but not much out of the 36cc range.
In cleaning up the face of the head to remove the damage I found a considerable warpage. I had to polish out the chambers to get my CC's back where they would be livable with 93 pump gas.
Does anyone have any better ideas or comments on combustion chambers...? Should I have left the edges sharp? Every Car motor I have ever had, I polished the chambers and left them smooth with no sharp edges. Is the same true for a 2-Stroke?
See the pics and let me know.
Thanks!!!David "Tango" Wilks

ITS IMPORTANT to match head gasket diameter so edge does not over hang in chamber i found polish wasted time in porting you want turbulance in mixture for complete burn smooth surfaces take fuel out of suspension tend to lean out mixture, ART

Seems like I bought the last two OEM 2.4L Mercury gaskets in the country today. Found one out of Texas and the other in San Diego, Ca. So if the Cali gasket makes it here tomorrow NDA... I'll have this mota on a hose tomorrow and hopefully on the lake pending the outcome.
I will most likely search for a stock set of heads... the builder of this engine has the pistons coming out of the block and I have a feeling its going to scatter. Not having much confidence in the build now that this is the third time trying to put lipstick on this pig. I should have bought one of the nice 260s I see in the marketplace than wasting so much on bad parts. I will stress this... if you are buying something from someone on here, be sure to ask someone local to go look at the parts before you buy.David "Tango" Wilks

Yes I did but at this time I will refrain from sharing my experience until I give it one more chance. Lets just say I could have bought a nice 260 or at least a 2.5 EFI for what I have now spent trying to get this mix-match 200 carb to even run on a hose. If this engine does scatter, then I will just yank the Mercury and reinstall the OMC 175 Faststrike that was on it before.
