Some of the best tools ive used for removing the core and foam...... one more side to go. Brian you are a trooper, i cant believe you have done two of them. these YT's are no joke......This boat has gone on a serious diet.

Finally no more foam.... I would show you guys how much came out but I had to throw it away in 3 to 4 contractor bags each week over the curse of 4 weeks, so my trash people wouldn't go nuts. next I have some major grinding and sanding to do before a fresh layer of glass goes down over the entire floor.

That's the best tool ever for grinding fiberglass....it's a carbide grinding disk. Never gets dull.
Got the hull almost ground down enough for a layer of glass. With the cold weather coming may not have time this fall. Does anyone know how long un opened fiberglass resin stays good for?

I think US Composites guarantees their standard resin for 3 months. Shelf life on epoxy much longer, maybe a year or 2 under ideal conditions. I have used some of their standard stuff that had been opened 1 year plus but it had been stored indoors. No extreme heat or cold. At any rate you're on your on as far as if it work and how much MEKP it will take to make it work.
Speed cost money. How fast you wanna go?
I have done so much with so little for so long, I can now do the impossible with nothing!

Thanks, I'm pretty sure polyester resin if unopened is good for about 6 to 12 months if stored properly I just wanted to make sure I was correct. if the temperature here in mass drops below 50 degrees I'm not going to try it this year.

I see the thread died when the weather turned - smart not to try using poly resin in the cold. I just got a YT Valero and I'm trying to do my homework before I start, keep up the documentation!
BTW - I had some left over West System for 10 years, it cured perfectly after all that time. The only thing I noticed is the color darkens with storage time. It's also $145 +tax a gallon (with part B quart) so it better last lol.

Hey speedman, yeah my project is on hold till the worm weather is back. I can't wait. I have about $500 worth of glass and resin I want to keep safe till spring haha. That's great you got a YT. They're unbelievable boats you will get plenty of help here on scream and fly. Let me know if you have any questions. I had mine for a while and had plenty of time to play around with rigging and set up.

That's how the boat sits till spring, prep work maybe cutting some new stringers is about all I can do in my non- heated garage.

I love my little propane heater for garage projects in the winter, but grinding glass I wont do in there lol. Its an attached garage way to messy! I grabbed this bare hull thinking it was a great find/great price but a buddy of mine is totally against the YT hull and had me second guessing the decision. I'm glad there's some positive reinforcement on here for them Basically they can be a wet ride and take more power than a vee to get the same speeds, but on the other hand they seem to be way more stable/safe. I only have the boat 1 week, I need to watch some youtube videos of YT's running. Good thread you look like you are doing it the right way and really prepping the surface in a way that the rebuild will be enjoyable - I recorded a 21 seebold and putting it together was fun, gutting it sucked.

you are absolutely right about gutting the boat....it sucked. I was itchy for a week. the fun part will be setting it up like new.

sorry, I didn't read that correct, Lakeville ma lol.... I bought the boat out in taunton ma about 8 years ago. the owner had it stored in a barn. I guess it was near Lakeville....do you know the boat?..... It had the old Nitrox and Methanol set up on it. There probably was not to many of them around.
