    Yup - make sure to dig out all that wet foam in the sponsons... then add some drain plugs.
    Don't put foam back in and leave the tops open (no floor) over the sponsons so you can store stuff in there and keep it dry.
    My core wasn't completely turned to mush like the rest of the boat in the sponsons but it was damp - do everything and do it right. My boat went from a water logged 75 MPH turd to one of the fastest YT's around.

    Noots, that link worked.... that was extremely helpful to me. its so awesome having other YT owners on here, who have been there done that. I also plan on leaving my sponsons open. so that tool you used just vibrates back and forth? the cut off wheel on the angle grinder is terrible for dust. my garage will never be the same haha.

    that's the plan....open sponsons.... I only ran a floor in it one year, after I kept getting more speed the boat kept getting lighter. I had only one seat in it after I moved to center steering, and no floor. I saw 92.3 mph on GPS on one of the CT river runs....... soon after that my prop shaft and brand new Mazco where sitting at the bottom of the river haha. so my plan is to keep this boat light as possible

    Happy it helps. The tool is a craftsman. Can't remember what they call it. You can get different cutters, scrapers and sanders for it. Almost zero dust. It is a cordless unit, eats up batteries pretty quick. Corded one would probably be better. A bunch of different manufacturers make them.
    basically vibrates back and forth super quick. Real easy to control. I also used the scraper attachment to dig at the foam to get it out in chunks.

    Thanks Noots, same goes for your boat, you never see that paint scheme. i swear about 5 years ago there was one like yours here in Leicester ma (hanks marine) here is a pic of my floor before i started replacing the core... i loved how it was all open like this

    got a little more done today.... i pulled the motor off, and welded up an extension on my car engine stand so the Merc would fit. than i started cutting into the outer sponsons of the YT..... to my suprise...they where wet. you can see the water in the left hand corner. the deeper i dig foam out...the more water i see. this boat was always garaged so it just goes to show you how you never really know what hidden secret lies under that floor. so far i have removed just about 75lbs of wet junk. ill keep updating as i pick away.

    Ok guys I need a little input.... I still have a long way to go... but when I get there I plan on leaving the floor out (just core and top layer of glass) also open sponsons... im going to add some stringers, but they YT never had them to begin with. it had a ski locker under the floor instead. my question is, when I do put the stringers in, should I glass them straight to the hull? or on top of the new glassed balsa core.
    also a big thanks to Brian hydrostreamvking4m for all his advise. I just placed a order with Mertons fiberglass. they where great, they walk you right through everything and calculate how much resin, matt, core, core bond you need. very helpful.

    Hopefully that helps. Stringers in mine ran along the outside of the pad area up to the bulkhead in front of the seats. Mine were put down direct to the hull with the hull and deck putty from Mertons then glassed over to the core once it was down. If your not doing a floor maybe do the same but glad them to the hull, then the core down then another layer of glass over the stringers on top of the core. A little heavier but no doubt strong.
    Ive gotten all my stuff from Mertons for all my glass projects, great guy to deal with for sure. I had barely any extra stuff left over, he figured out exactly what I needed.

    That's weird about the stripped core?
    Beautiful boat though. See if you can get ahold of the Remco prop guys. I believe they ran a YT (Valero as it's a faster deck) into the 114-116 range back in the 80's. I bet they can give you some great setup advise

    i cant thank you guys enough for the help, thanks Noots, that made my stringer question very clear, I will do exactly that. and AFR, I do have some old videos up on YouTube of this boat running so you may have seen it. P man thanks for that reference about Remco ill look into that for sure.... the boat ran very well prior to this rebuild so I am very exited to see how it performs completely gutted. I do have a old video online somewhere of this boat running 92.3 on one of the CT river runs...right before loosing my prop shaft.
