Water coming out of the lower mounts on 225 opti?
Just got a new to me opti. Started up on the hose and see water coming out of the lower mount area. Have not seen this with my other optis. This is a 2012 with 259 hrs. Fresh water motor, real clean. Runs at 135-140 when on plane and cools to 130 at idle. Good pressure all thru the r's. Base gasket bad? Normal? WTF?

I don't think its normal…. My 300xs has never run over 135 on plane. Evan at wfo in the summer. 140 seems a little high. If its a clean freshwater motor…. You may want to take a peek.

I've seen sometimes when the lower mount gets soft it punches a small hole in
the mount area, pull the cover off and check it out.21 SuperBoat VF200 Yamaha SHO

Pulled the covers. Water is coming out of factory holes above mounts. Gonna pull it apart and have a look. Will post back up when I figure it out. Thanks for the replies guys....

Someone may have forgotten to put the water seal on top of the water pump housing.............

Anything is possible. Will start with the lower unit and work my way up. Bought this 225 to replace the one with the crapped out reeds. I guess buying used motors will make a mechanic out of me eventually.

Ended up being the P/H gasket. Replaced both the adapter, PH gaskets and water tube grommets too. Now no leaks. I did run a file across the surfaces to true them up. Put aviation form a gasket on the gaskets and bolted it back up. Fairly easy, but not fun.....

have the same issue on a 2004 opti 200xs. the gasket between the motor and case plate developed a pin hole. lifting the motor off shortly.

You need to check the grommet under the exhaust divider where the water tube comes up to the PH base. (PIA) Also make sure the water pump tube and pump base is not leaking.....

I have an old 01 opti that has been doing it for years. Has good pressure and runs cool. Seems to not be a problem so far....New gaskets and grommet fixed it on a newer one...It never had a pressure or overheat problem either.
