    overheating issue? Poppet valve?

The guy removed serial numbers and its a 2.4 200 hp block, lets say 1986? it runs through long slow no wakes perfect, once on plain, it rises to over 215 degrees, i shut down and idle and goes back ok. Fresh engine, and water pump last year, strong 6 foot stream, poppet valve? i have been told? how expensive and are parts readily available to do myself? what is time to install? thanks, JIM

Where are your water intakes in relation to the transom? The reason I ask is that if your motor is mounted (or raised on a Jack Plate) too far, you can easily have great water pressure & cooling at idle and lose it once on plane. What's the "strong 6 foot stream" look like once on plane?

well i do have a jack but was running motor all the way down on jack testing boat for some tubing we are planning with guests. i have water temp, pressure and tach, i use a lot. I think we have a poppet issue, since motor is really low on transom when down and although no cone on this one, i am only driving around at 30 mph hardly on plane, so motor is deep.

If your running a high pitched prop and skiing, tubing etc. That can make it run hot, if thats the case try a prop with less pitch.

Well that's kinda weird because it shouldn't. The poppet valve is there to release excess water psi, if you pull the spring it shouldn't have much psi if any at idle, might be okay once your moving.

Poppet should open just over 10 psi. With no spring would at less press. Have something strange going on.
