    HydroStream Jet Project

Hello. Let me start this off by saying this project is in its infancy. I bought a Viking hull in need of a complete restoration about 10 years ago. I have several boats in my "graveyard" and I'm finally ready to do something with this hull, starting next year.

I always envisioned hanging a big Merc off of the back, but I'd like to do something different now. I have zero experience with jet drives in boats. I do however have a lot of experience with performance jet skis, so I'm assuming the principles are similar. I've also built several turbo late model GM motors for drag cars, so that's the route I'd like to try to go with this Viking.

I have the fab skills to do pretty much anything. But I do not have any idea what jet unit to run or how much power things can handle, etc. I don't know how to setup the jet in the boat. No ideas on impellers, diverters, droops, etc.

So here is what I'd like to do, but I'm open to conversation. I'd like to run a late model fuel injected GM V8 with a turbo. I could comfortably make anywhere up to about 850hp. I plan to run ethanol as well. What type of jets should I be looking into? I've seen a handful of jet HydroStreams, but cannot find hardly any information on them. I'm not sure if they modify the pad at all or do anything else drastic.

So, what can you tell me about my ideas? Any recommendations? I don't really care how fast this thing goes, I just think it would be a cool boat.

    Thanks!
    Adam

OBI Days Long Island - Jet Boat

Long time ago photos. My brother had an original Hydro Stream Jet Boat. It was a Stars and Stripe. It had a twin turbo charged BBC and a droop snoot. It ran in the 100's.

There are jet drives made in Australia that I beleve are far superior to what we have here. Not sure the name but someone here will know.Perfect for aluminum small block. The pad on the Streams should make a good starting point.

So these are outboard holes that were converted to jet boats correct ? I don't ever remember seeing a jet Hydrostream . And the one in the 2nd set of picks still has a splash well or whatever there called so I assume it was an outboard hull to start with .... reason I'm asking I also have a hydrostream hull in very bad shape I thought about doing a jet drive in .....anyone have new input on the topic????

Dreams are only limited by time/money/physics

physically very possible. The other two are up to you but if you go for this I will be a huge fan and offer encouragement the entire build. I’d love to watch something like this come together
