Freshening up a Looper (jetting q's and then some)

Sorry to add yet another looper jetting question to the forums, but want to double check before I do something that putís any holes in my pistons.

    Hereís what Iím working with:
96 200hp rude, no porting... yet. 6Ē setback.
    Carbs from a 99 225hp (venturiís measure roughly 1.45Ē) with 106 pullovers.
86-89 intakes (someone did a lot of work on them, put boyseens in too.)
    Al Stoker 46cc heads

Iíd like this to be a reliable lake motor, itís on a heavy 20.5í 96 Hydrasport 205FS. It is for fishing (well, mainly hauling ass to the fishing spots,) but I donít troll with it, I have an electric for that.

Iím thinking of gutting the airbox?? I know this will effect the jetting.

1.) For jetting the mains, I was thinking to start with 76D top 4 and 77D for the bottom 2?
I donít have any clue what to do for the midsÖ.

2.) For timing, should I run it at 18deg or dial it back a couple?

3.) At what point do I need to think about pinning the carrier (Lightning gearcase.)

4.) Iím up in Canada (Saskatchewan) and donít have much options for getting someone in the know to do the cooling mod. Can I just use the 70hp t-stats?

I'll measure once I get those heads on. I'm thinking it'll be 140-145. I forgot to mention I'll be plugging the reliefs.

Does anybody know where I can get the 106 pullovers. I've had some on order with the local dealer for over a month and they can't tell me an accurate ETA. Apparently none in Canada, makes me suspicious that maybe the part is never coming from BRP.

Which intake would you suggest? I've got the one that came on my engine, and an older one that's been worked a bit by someone else. I'm inclined to believe it's not going to make much difference until I do some porting work on the block, but I won't have time for that until this winter. The older intake came with some boyseen's, the stock steel reeds look fine too.

96 air box does not have guts to remove. 99 carbs you mentioned should already have pull over tubes. If you have the correct closed deck heads they dont use the 70 stats those are used in the open deck heads, the ones in the closed deck heads are fine. 145psi is too much on a heavy boat so I would not fill the idle relief. Jetting depends a lot on weather conditions. I would start up 3 from stock which should be 72D in your carbs on all cylinders except number 2 which I would start up 4. The open deck blocks like more in the bottom.

    Thanks racer.

Where do I find the pullover tubes in the carbs to check? I've searched for pics but can't find any.

The heads I have are your 46cc open deck heads (anodized red/pink.) Can I pull all the t-stat stuff from my stock closed deck heads and put them in the open deck heads?

Ok, I've left the idles reliefs open and I'll start with 73D on #2 and 72D on the rest.

72D is the stock jet you need to go up even with idle relief open. No the thermostats do not inter change. If you have open deck heads you need to fill in between the chambers like the closed deck head before running.

I see, sorry I miss understood your post. So I need 76D in #2 and 75D in the rest. What do you recommend for the mids?

For T-stats, all I need is the 70hp covers, springs and gasket correct? I can reuse the assembly that came with the open deck heads? Do I need to gut the water control stuff?

    Thanks!

The head on the top is one I pulled off the engine.

The head on the bottom is one of yours I bought off a user here on the forum. Open deck 46cc.

I laid out the t-stat pieces I have for each head.

    Hey everyone.

Due to a number of reasons, I had to put the boat into storage, but it's back out now and I'm working on it while time permits.

Being that this is a closed deck block, but the heads are open, I've blocked the passages in the heads with epoxy and put in the 70hp t-stats, springs and covers.
-what do I do with the 2 outputs on the blowoff valve on the block that used to be connected to the old t-stat covers.

-Also, what spark plugs do I use now that I have the mid-bore carbs and the al-stoker heads?

Install the 90 degree elbow from the open deck blocks (about 1/8 ID) and run a hose over board. Heads were made for 2 different plugs if you have the later model version for standard reach you use QL78YC

    Thanks Al,

-The block is a 96, but the heads are your 46cc open deck red anodized heads. So QL78YC is correct?

-Can you clarify, I'm not clear on the 90deg fitting. Is it an OEM part or something I drill and tap?
Could you point it out on the diagram (from evinrude parts for 200hp 1990) or my picture of my motor?
