mercury/mariner 200 2.4
I put new head gaskets on my motor and seen were the block has 3 new sleeves and pistons.nickel block-not chrome?new to this.how reliable are they as running and lasting a while.i was going to have the motor re ringed and my mechanic said walls look decent put its not the engine that fails its electronics, oil pump, etc, etc, that take down a motor.he said you could rering at it could last 30 min-10 years or run it. motor got good compression, spark etc.i guess the question would be are they reliable for short bursts of speed or do they need babyed.thanks

200 2.4 are all chrome bore blocks (unless its one of the last Bridgeport motors) if it has new sleeves its most likely steel sleeves ,as nic sleeves are usually installed in a hi-po blocks and not often they are generally re-niced by us chrome for around 1100. for all of them and must be diamond honed and run forged pistons. not somthing that would be done on a 2.4 200 IMHO

If its got steel sleeve's as long as the set the piston to cyl clearance right it should be fine.
