Greg, it really is for a 62! Outside of the skeg and prop paint rub it is fantastic condition.
The cowling got scratched up while crating.

Bodhi, that's a really nice collection! I absolutely love old outboards. If you all want to post more photos, it would be great. Tony, I would sure like to see more photos of that 40 as well. Yours is probably the nicest I've ever seen. I always liked how the old OMC engines used a split gearcase design, before they introduced the one-piece gearcase housing. It's also remarkable to me that the lower part of the gearcase was held on by phillips head screws! I know that back then (and today) owners needed to be vigilant to make sure that lower seal would not leak. It's a very interesting design.

Here you go - a brand new, in the box 1973 Evinrude 6hp Fisherman, short shaft. I got this literally sealed in the box, with fuel tank and all. Absolutely stunning, 100% mint condition. No signs of age whatsoever. Looks like it was made yesterday. I bought this in 2009, and it sits on a stand in my studio now. It's just way to pretty to use.

The fellow I bought it from told me his dad bought this brand new back then, and it just sat in his basement in the box. It sounded like the typical "lady just drove it to church on Sundays" story, but it turned out to be absolutely true. I am still shocked at how beautiful this is. No signs of aging at all - no yellowing of the paint or cracking of the rubber parts. The plasticized rubber on the tiller handle is perfect. It very literally looks like it was manufactured just yesterday, in every respect. It's stunning.

The photos below show it just as I pulled it out of the box. I did not have to clean it at all - not even wipe it down! To this day, I've never had to even wipe it down.

I think it was Bil Ghor had a 90 omc stern drive for sale on a stand where it had been since new, photos here somewhere..
Laydown a V6 and you would have a nice configuration sterndrive.
