    Checkmate enchanter jackplate question?

I have an enchanter and im looking to put on a 6" setback/jackplate. I did my research and from what i hear if you go anymore than 6" youre putting your transom through a lot of stress. I was wondering even with only 6" should i worry about extra support. i know some put a sheet of metal on the inside to help balance the weight.. think i will need the extra support? Also as far a i know everything is stock when it comes to the dual cable steering. Would this amount of set back require me to get new cables or should i have enough to make it work. i will make sure just in case but i would like some opinions as well, thanks

Alot will depend upon the current condition of your transom. If the transom is dry/solid and you're not seeing any stress cracks around the corners you should be fine with a 6" setback. Always use a transom saver plate on the inside of the transom to distribute the bolt load on the setback. If you plan to go more than 6" you may want to beef up your transom knees. Make sure the knees are tied to the stringers directly (not the floor), the transom and the topdeck. You can use the existing knees and double up on the thickness using epoxy resin and some good bi-directional glass (1708).
