    Evinrude 250 HO Water Temp

What is the water temperature range for idle and slow cruising for slow speed no wake zones on a 2012 250 HO?
It's fine when I'm running at higher speeds but I'm in the 170 to 180 range about 2 minutes after startup.
All water intakes are clear and steady stream out the indicator hole.

They are set to idle warm, it helps to keep them cleaner burning. If concerned you could change to Ficht thermostats which will lower idle temp about 10 degrees.

Using the Evinrude diagnostic software or I-Command gauge:

Typical temperature displays at IDLE speed should be 160°F ± 10°F (71°C ± 6°C) Typical temperature displays at WOT speed should be 150°F ± 10°F (66°C ± 8°C) Operating temperature must not exceed 194°F (90°C).

    Using an infrared temp gun:

Measure temperature at the top of cylinder block, next to the thermostat housing and cylinder head. Check temperature on both sides of powerhead. Typical pyrometer readings at IDLE speed should be 143°F ± 15°F (62°C ± 8°C)

It's in the 170 to 180 right on the I Command gauge, river water temp is probably in the high 60s. Running at 140 when I'm on on it.
I'l have to try the heat gun and see. Do you think it will be a valid test on the ear muffs?

temp on thermostat housing on both sides were the same, in the mid 140s, all though it seemed the temp on the cylinder head was hotter on the left side of the motor. Replaced thermostats any way since it's part of the 3 year maintenance. Motor still seems hot around 1200 rpms I was hitting 188, dropped it down a couple hundred RPMs and temp dropped 10 degrees in to the 170s. Dealer said this was normal. I will pull the plugs and make sure none are burning lean. Goes in for 3 year checkup next month.

My 250HO idles at 147 to 160. And will idle like that forever. It will however creep up if I am running off idle 900 - 1200 rpm.

Water pump replaced and that seemed to do it. Running in the 130s now when it's opened up, about 8 degrees cooler and cruising slow speed zones is now cooler. Dealer said he's run in to this a few times, where the pump looks fine and he replaces it and that does it.

Some 250 HO 's get a new pressure relief valve. What is your model and serial number?

Your engine has the latest pressure relief valve, but that does not mean that it cannot be plugged or restricted with sand, mud, or debris.

Motor was fine for a couple times out and now problem is back. It's still running cooler with the new water pump, I'm in the 130s when I'm running but at around 1000 to 1200 RPMS it just keeps getting hotter all the way up to 200 a couple times, yet the alarm never went off.
I also have a analog gauge that's connected to a temp probe screwed in to the block. That isn't showing high temp, maybe 150 to 160 when this occurs.
If I bring the RPMS up to 1500 it immediately cools down. At idle it's ok. Water pressure is good. The water coming out the spit tube isn't hot, but I'm guessing that's before it hits the motor.

8 to 10. Some people were saying there's something you can do to open the pressure relief valve sooner. I'm not sure how it all works. It also seems if it starts doing it and I rev it up a couple times quick then back to 1000 rpms it seems better. like there's something sticking.

So I can just open the pressure relief valve? I won't need some sort of rebuild kit or anything?
