    Checkmate Enchanter 200 merc

Just curious if anyone else has the same boat and what do they run? Im running a 24 turbo on it and its turning 5500 rpms at 61 mph. Dont have a jackplate/ setback. Does this sound right? I also ran a 23 cleaver but spun 6500 which was too much at the same speed. Ive heard most guys run 68-70 mph with a jack plate and set back. Is that really the 7-8 mph im missing out on?

You can look on the Checkmate-Boats page for more info but a Cleaver isn't going to work well on that hull. A Chopper should work well for high speed. You can definitely use some setback but unless the transom is beefed up some I wouldn't go more than 6 inches back.

I tested lots of props (chopper, cleaver, laser, high five, etc) and by far the best on my 20' Enchanter / 200 Merc was a plain old 24 Michigan Wheel stainless 3-blade prop... but the only way to run in the mid-70's with 200hp was to run it with nose way up in the air, throwing a huge rooster tail.

I plugged the UPPER two holes on the lower unit and ran it about as high as it could go without losing pressure... I just had a fixed setback spacer, I think 4" or less.

With ~240hp it ran high 70's with four people... and it ran much flatter, using much less trim.

Prop looked just like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/321739344844

It's the UPPER holes in the lower you need to plug if you are going to run the motor high up without a low water pick up. On my 250 EFI there's 8 holes on each side and 4 on each side are plugged.

Yes, you're right. It's only been 20 years... can't believe I got that mixed up.

Thanks guys. Im gonna try another prop this weekend. Maybe my next step is a jackplate with 6" setback, i dont want to get carried away with reinforcing the transom.

    It happens Dave.

Get that motor up so the shaft is just a couple of inches below the pad and go from there.

83 enchanter with a healthy 2.4 200 6" manual JP top holes plugged, i was trying for 2" below pad but never got that high without losing water psi, I think 2.5"-3" was all the higher I got. 25 pitch trophy plus I believe 6400 rpms 69 GPS just me low on fuel, lots of testing, $, research, was it worth it= no. I bought a cougar 19 now I can switch boats and go 110, my 23p high five never comes of my enchanter anymore. Be sure you get a water psi gauge and some better reeds if you are going to be running over 6k rpms. Good luck and have fun!

This was the fastest run (while I had it anyway) with the 200hp motor.

Also I will say that adding the jackplate gave the boat a way different feel, much better handling. That is a positive side to all that I did, it is definitely a good upgrade. Didn't mean to be all negative.
