anyone ever tear apart an old fuel filter?

I changed my fuel filter before the season started up.
I removed the old one in the fall when I pulled the boat into the garage. When I was cleaning up the other day I found the old one laying in my tool cart and carefully cut it apart to inspect the element.

Brand new tank and fuel lines. Makes me wonder how all this dirt and material gets in our gas.

Looks like a lot of aluminum from them building the tank.

You think thats ugly, cut the oil filter on yor car or truck apart. As was said I always pump into cans if 2stroke oil in the cans, filter with a funnel before the tank.

You really wanna get grossed out......
Cut open your old Bosch fuel pump next time you replace one!
Mine was still working ok but I had to upgrade for more volume and it seemed to be drawing more power then it should. Cut it open and it was full of what can best be described as brown mud (most likely rust). I now filter before & after the pump.

Changed and autopsied the fuel filter on my skid steer yesterday. I use a Mercury filter and base and it was so plugged with rust it would only run with choke at 100%. Removed filter and by-passed base with an inline thro away and it ran like a top. It ran fine before it was parked last summer and my guess is the rust sealed the paper because it would not pass fuel. You could blow thru it ok but very little liquid transfer. It's always a good idea to inspect your filters before you discard them. Lots of info there.

I've found the same on a few "autopsies " lol . Absoluetly filter before and after the pump IMHO .

Been there too guys. Since I have been buyin my fuel from a small airfield haven't had any problems. The pumps at the airfield have screw on filters on the hoses! Its worth the extra time and money to me for the clean fuel WITHOUT ethanol. Gary
