Student Powerboat Research
Hi.
We are a group students from Plymouth University conducting research into small powerboats and the features that are seen as the most important.
The questions we are hoping to find answers to are:
- What deck layout is favoured on 15-20ft sized powerboats?
- What features/options are “must-haves”?
- What is valued most in a powerboat? (Speed, reliability, safety etc)
Thank you for any help you can give.

You came to the right place, good luck on your project, open cockpit like a Mirage, must have foot throttle, dual cable, hydraulic or string steering, kill switch, good life vest, and speed and reliability are sometimes a compromise but that is what you strive for, just my 2 cents, Matt

I'd say speed, safety, then reliability. According to my research ...

'81 Carlson C500 Metric - Currently in foster care
'70 something Speedcraft - Allison 16R clone - Undergoing restoration

If you would dedicate a section to lightweight, powerful, high rpm, affordable outboards, and send a copy to all the major outboard manufacturers, we would all appreciate it.
