So now these outboards are just as heavy as a stern drive, hard to work on like a stern drive, almost the power to weight as a stern drive, and of course as expensive as one too.

Power to weight being everything you bring up a very good point. You can have a 400 hp 2 stoke for half the cost of this motor and almost half the weight. hmmm You can have a 500-600 hp car motor for half the cost and right around the same weight. If you want a fast fishing boat with a space saving outboard thats 25ft or larger this would be a good option. Other wise I cant see it being good for a 24fter or less untill they come in sub 500lbs and no more than 20 grand. The profit margin must be double at least at 30 grand!! Ya gota have deep pockets for this anchor. Almost 700 lbs wow thats heavy for 2.6 lts. i cant believe they cant do better than this? Its a nice looking piece for sure Im just thinking there real high on price and weight for only 100 more hp than an xs. i cant see it being faster or quicker on say a 22ft progression for instance than a single 300xs?

Good looking motor but I only see them on boats that are owned by go fast guys in their big CC fishing rigs. Yes, you will see a few on the 30' cats but IMO not many and that will be because they will force you to buy them if you need/want an O/B boat by NA their current lines!
They are in business to make $/profit and us little performance boat guys even if they came out with a nice new SS motor for what they would have to get for it they would not sell many.
The price is the reflection of Mercury's cost on the research & development of this things, someone has to pay for it.
IMPO, Things like this are only making the E-Tec and Yamaha lines become much stronger.
OH well, I suggest to keep up with what you got.....

Absolutely, the only gain of having an outboard now is getting space in the boat

Sucks that its not a motor for the hot rod boaters, but I would love to replace the 275 on the Spectre with one!!
