STV Euro Ski Motor height and Setback Please Help
I bought this 1996 Euro ski boat last summer, and never really got it set up right. I am new to these kind of boats and know little about setting them up. The boat is equipped with a Merc 2.5 260 20" 1.87:1 Sportmaster gear case, directly mounted on the transom third hole from the top (middle hole). I am running a 28P Mazco RE-4. The boat is located in the Okanagan BC, and mostly runs in a Lake. I have yet to run the boat WOT, the fastest I have run the boat is at 7000rpm 89mph. Could someone with a similar boat please tell me what height I should run the motor at, setback and what prop works best.

Try to get a 6 inch jack plate and 3 blade merc ET prop, maybe a 28 or 30 if you got the balls. The prop shaft should be about an 1 1/2 above pad. These are good places to start, you can fiddle around from there. Good luck, post some photos of your boat.

Correct... On my 2010 Euro with a 225 Sport XS the center of the Sportmaster lower unit is just about dead center with the center pod drain plug or about 1 3/8 to 1 1/2 above the bottom of the pad. I have a Bobs 5" manual jackplate... I wish I had Jack install a hydraulic plate when he built the boat. I am running a 32" Mercury ET and run 96 MPH at the 5900 - 6000 RPM. The motor has a 6k limiter. I am looking to try a cleaver and hope to get a few more MPH. Also have a 30" Mazco I picked up on S&F that I haven't tried yet.

Thank you for the information guys! I will try a 6" HydroDynamic Rapid Jack Plate, and start with the center of prop shaft at 1 3/8 above bottom of pad.
Sounds like the Mercury Lightning ET prop is the most popular for STV owners. I would also consider a Mazco RE (round ear) prop, considerably cheaper than the ET prop.
