Lighting Powerboats Action with Yamaha video

I'm not new to this site. but I'm new to high performance boating. My boat is a 2004 Lighting Powerboats Action with a 1999 Yamaha V-Max. I traded this boat for one of my to airboats and I couldn't be happier. I have had a lot of questions answered through "high performance boating" on Facebook, but would rather stick to this website for any knowledge I may need from here on out. When I acquired the boat I was told it was a 85 mph boat. I never doubted this. First 3-4 times out got faster and faster but it took so much driving and nerve to go that fast. I never realized it took so much input from the driver to go that fast. After a small discussion on FB I decided to raise the engine up from 5/8 below pad to level. First trip out was highly disappointing. It was very windy and my bow kept wanting to go sky high. I was thinking about taking the engine lower. After talking to my friend Jared, he told me I had a bow lift prop and maybe I should try a stern lift. So he lent me his 32p 4-blade off his 300 pro max to try. What a difference across the board. I went from a 26p at 6300rpms to a 32p at 5700 and have achieved 88.9mph in a short stretch of river! I am looking forward to a lake run and hopefully be in the 90's. This video is with a 27p stern lift prop that I traded for my 26p bow lift prop.

ACTIONS are very forgiving for the not so experienced driver...the boat has a lot of built in lift and counter lift in the deck, your fstest speeds will be running flat...short rooster tail, motor high at best...will run fast with even with smaller motor...lightning's were light I heard...18' version...ACTIONS will blow out and blowover over 100mph, usually due to unforseen reasons, swells, wind, operator error!! and just bad luck...be happy you got a 90mph rocket, safe and sound...welcome aboard...

The Boat looks great. They actually go faster if you lay them flat. Mine liked ET props and less trim. A chopper cruised better but 95+ the trim was bottomed out and the bow kept climbing. 90s with a 32 cleaver will be no problem. Leave the motor even, mine was fastest almost 2" above but it had a flat pad unlike an action pad.

The previous owner of that boat ran it on lake tarpon by us a few times and it always ran good but he never had any interest in setting it up for top end. It was in great shape when I saw it in person on the lake. Good luck with it and play safe

Nice vid. Like Baja mentioned, you need to be at least an inch above the pad and run a cleaver or ET. When you raise the motor you'll get more rpm out of that cleaver and a higher speed. Go easy on the trim. I promise when you start getting into the mid-90s you won't fly the bow like that for long. Make sure you wear a life jacket ,kill lanyard, and run downwind till you know the boat better. Looks like you're having fun! Be safe.

You should look a little more like this when running at speed.
