Difference: merc 280 ros vs merc 280 standard (con)
Hi!
I have been wondering, what's the difference between a Merc 280 ros and a Merc 280 standard (con).
I know they have different ECU and the ros has the rev limiter set to 8 200 rpm and con 7 700 rpm, but are there any other differences? Or is the ECU the only thing that is different?
Also, is the rev limiter the only thing that sets the ECUs apart?
Thanks,
Oskar

Subscribed. I've also wondered If the curve was different in the 8200 rpm ROS box.
I have the CON box and 7700 is not getting the job done. With a 24 pitch prop I'm on the limiter quick.http://www.screamandfly.com/showthre...interior-re-do

I have always wondered the same thing. 280`s seem to run great until they reach the rpm limit so the stock fuel curve must be good. Can anybody remove or move the limit up without changing the curve?

I've sent a message to DBR asking these type of questions.
I like everything about how my 280 runs except the 7700 rpm limit. I'd like to turn 9K
I will share the info when I get it. Petehttp://www.screamandfly.com/showthre...interior-re-do

Only difference is the rev limit and that the offshore box doesn't care about the overheat and/or water pressure (not sure which it is) alarm.
Then, of course, there is the bass mid section and the offshore mid section.Markus' Performance Boating Links:

Time to update this thread.
I have now the opportunity to switch my con box for a ros box.
Is it just plug and play or do I need to to any other modifications? My 280 is a -05 and everything is stock...
Cheers!

It will plug and play. Didnt the ROS motors have a 1" intake spacer and a hood pin?

No stock 280’s didn’t have 1” spacer, ( Ros or Con ) only horned Drags cam with 1” spacer from Mercury ...

Just to share my experience with 280s. Drag raced three different new 280 powerheads. Ran 260 electronics and 280 electronics (10,000 rpm limiter). No matter what pitch prop I put on them none would ever pull 9000 rpm. Blocks just aren't ported to get that rpm. Saw a couple posts that guys were doing it but my experience it didn't happen.

A stock 280’s exhaust port mapping is 1.625” from top of port to the deck , Drag is 1.530” 260 is 1.565” so the top rpms that each make top power differs ...
Bill you are correct !!!

Thanks for all the great input!
I'm running a Twister 20 (2015) at 119,8 mph on the limiter at the moment.... That 120 mph mark itches

Update!
Im about to switch to a ROS ECU...Just curious: How does the toque/hp-curve look like above 7700 rpm?
I did find a curve showing 0-7500 rpm and peek power seems to be at 7500, but what happens above? Does it drop quickly?

Nothin like testing for yourself , if u have the box , its plug and play , then see what happens after 7700, mite just hit ur mark
