What's cut reed cages and cut exhaust chest on Merc v6
Hi all just wondering what cut reed cages and exhaust
chest is and the advantages of this as I have a bridgeport
Merc vp mod motor and want a bit more power

cut reed cages are where the openings in the cage is enlarged to allow more aire to pass . The exhaust chest is also cut to allow wore volume to pass .

Unless you are racing I wouldn't worry about cutting the reed cages. I would start at the beginning and go from there. Have you maximized your setup already? (engine height, prop selection, hull weight distribution, etc) How much compression do you have now? Having the heads cut to raise compression is probably the single most effective thing you can do to increase power. What carbs are you running? Carbs can make a difference. A 1" Spacer like those sold by Chris Carson can improve mid range on a carb motor too. All that without cutting on the block.
