mercury makes a standard duty 3.0 200 optimax and a 3.0 200 xs aimed at the bass market standard 200 rated at 5750 rpm and the xs is rated at 6000 rpm just wanted to know the main difference between these motors. I have a 2003 plain optimax. how many rpms can these motors safely turn and when does the rev limiter come on. I know somebody here has to know. thanks

between 2001- 2006 the 200xs was a mercury racing consumer 2.5 liter motor. the sst came latter and is a full race motor. its also the most thrifty 200 built at 7.4 mpg

There is no difference in the 200 and 200ProXS. Both 3.0 and here in my book from Mercury school (Optimax 2) it says the stock 200 meets all the XS performance criteria. Decal changes only. Mercury's words but I am sure there was a price difference. The 200XS is a completly different motor.

Is there a thread on just the F2 opti. It seems to me that @8000 rpm it becomes a different motor.
