    Wanting more horsepower and speed.

Okay everyone, I have an 89 Eliminator Daytona with a 89 Mercury 2.4 Bridgeport EFI motor which runs great but I am wanting more speed. I would love to get my hands on a 300X which leads me to my question. Can I just pull off the powerhead on this Bridgeport and install a 300X on it without having to do a ton of modifications or do I have to buy a completely different motor?
I am new to the outboard world so your help is very appreciated.

Welcome to the outboard world, the 300x is a bigblock 3L and won't fit the 2.4 leg, now you can get a adapter to bolt to a 2.5 leg maybe even a 2.4 but it's expensive, probably easier to just get the whole motor, just from what i've read, somebody here will know more but hey happy boating

Good to know. Guess I am going to be on the hunt for a 300 then. That is gonna be pricey but hey,I guess if I want to go faster I'm gonna have to be willing to pay the price.

you can get a good 2.5l that will fit your leg and lower , just change out the tuner, a good 260 or 280 powerhead will bolt right up and go would be alot cheaper, a powerhead would be about 6-7k it would make your Daytona rock

Plus, the 2.5 could fit underneath the 2.4 cowl, which IMO is the best looking one of all the merc's. Possibly better gas mileage compared with the X as well.

Looks like it needs a prop and some engine height as a good place to start.

Agreed. What prop is that? What speeds are you seeing? Is the Bridgeport carb or EFI? Strong Bridgeport set up right should see mid 80's or better on that boat easy.

2.5 is an option but I certainly want the 280hp if I'm gonna spend the money.

Its an EFI and that prop is gone. It came on the boat when I bought it. I am running a 26 pitch cleaver now and the motor is turning 7000RPM's at WOT and approx. 80+mph. After 80 the speedo loses water pressure and bounces all over the place.

Looked at the motor height last night and it is at the lowest setting on the jack plate. How high should I raise it or is it just a trial and error thing? I was thinking on taking it up 2 holes which looks to be about 1.5 inches. What does everyone think? Should I go more or start there?
Just a FYI the water intake holes are at the front/top side of the bullet on my lower gear case. Don't want to go to high and lose wate pressure.

I woudl go for a GPS speedo to start with ( about 350$ ), that, lift this engine up a little with an Hydraulic Jackplate and the way we go, trial and error Tango.

And would never raise her up without a pressure guage. Gary
