    Mercury Bridgport EFI Questions

    Hi Guys,

Ive recently been having some issues with my 1989/90 Mercury 200hp Blackmax.

I have been offered a completely rebuilt (getting rebuilt right now) Mercury Bridgeport EFI

I have been told that this powerhead will bolt onto my mid section, i have a few questions.

Will the Powerhead bolt directly onto my Mid section, he is supplying a new gasket?

He said i will need to use the cowling he has, is this correct?

What fuel pump setup do i need to use?

Is the factory Fuel Reg ok to use in the Bridgeport?

    Is it worth it?

    See pictures below,

    Thank you

My Bridgeport is also a powerhead and cowl swap onto a 200.

The high performance cowling and pan will be necessary to block off the unused water passages from the 200's poppet valve. There will be an exhaust port mismatch, (powerhead is rectangular, adapter for 200 is more square-shaped) but it will still work fine even with the step in the passage. You need the cowl anyway because of the horn front.

Worthwhile upgrade if the motor is legit.

The bridgport is a Mercury Racing product....You would probably be better of with a production 2.5L 200 for skiing and general pleasure boating. I'm sure there are several "drop on" powerheads in the classifieds here that will work for you.

I run a Brucato PCU on mine, and I use it a lot for midrange cruising with the family, sometimes idling for several hours on skinny rivers. The only downside I've experienced is the lack of a real charging system. The 15 amp charging system only charges the battery above 3000-4000 rpm. Below that range, it works at a loss, allowing the battery to slowly deplete. I have not experienced any issues during general family use that left me wishing I had a 200 fishing motor.

Yes, a 2.5L 200 will work with your mid section. And I think the exhaust ports will match as well. If the problems are not major with your 2.4L, I would just fix it. The old 2.4L carb 200 is easy to work on and usually pretty dependable.
