I am going to set the carbs a bit lower and see if that helps. I will put everything back together and give it another lake test soon.

i am also going to buy a good compression tester so I can feel comfortable with the results. Does anyone have any recommendations for a brand?

could be fuel delivery. I'd temporarily steal the gauge off mom's pressure kettle and install it so you can see what your fuel pressure is. I've seen em balk just because they had an AtWood fuel bayonet connector, and couldn't get enough gas.

Hitting the wall at that RPM smells more like a stator problem. The fault is solid enough that checking the stator with a meter would find it.

Proper diagnostics is the fastest and least expensive route to a repair.

Check to see if someone put a 1.87 lower on that 2.0 that will bog one down.
    Good luck

This. but even a weak motor will eventually come up on tha revs. Unless its really, really weak. If no change go back ta stator. Good ohm reading may not show a bad stator.

Carbs may be fine. First float pic should be ok. If ya got a motor tha won't rev under a load its kinda common ta have a little build up in tha throats. They're workin' but motor ain't usuin' up tha fuel.....jmo

Thanks everyone. All items I will check. Regarding the stator, I just put a brand new one on prior to my last test and there was no change. I had also just replaced the rectifier and trigger. After I got it out of the water, I check spark on all cylinders to a 1" air gap and also put the timing light on all cylinders and cranked the motor for a bit, just to be sure the spark timing was even and consistent. That means the stator is probably ok right?

I am not sure how to check the lower unit ratio, how do I do that?

I got all the floats reset and bleed lines changed out. I put it all back together this morning and will be headed to the lake shortly to see how she runs. I have my max timing at WOT already set at 18 BTDC degree (cranking speed) and also set the idle cranking at 10 ATDC - which is what the decal on the airbox and the manual call for.

I am going to test it and if I don't get good response, I am going to tweak the play with the pickup timing some more. Anyone know if I should go more advanced or less on the pickup timing to test? I figured I would not risk blowing the motor since I have the WOT advance set and wont touch it right?

Here is where I set my carb roller in reference to the cam. A bit further than my original setting from the previous test.

Here is all my linkage in case anything sticks out to you guys as strange:

How would I go about checking that? I don't see any markings on the lower unit itself. My guess is I check how many times the prop turns in relation to the flywheel?

Playing with the pickup timing is a waste of time, all it does is vary the idle speed.

Mark location of prop and flywheel. Put motor in gear and rotate flywheel with wrench two revolutions and see where the prop is.

    Carbs wide-open for compression test?

Isn't 18 BTDC only if you have the idle/knock/oil or whatever extra timing boxes hooked up? (Mine is 25 BTDC with no extra boxes.)

Switch boxes? Pick up timing is simple, its the timing setting when the throttle cam picks up(or touches) the carbs roller. That is not idle timing, however I doubt that is your problem. Have someone check the stator voltage, even if it is new.

I had a brand new stator from cdi that was bad this spring. Same issue that is the route I would pursue. jmo.

Well, something I did fixed it because she ran like a scalded dog today. Has a bit of butt in the hole for a few seconds and then it flys. Hit 70 on the GPS, which I am not sure I believe, but 60's were easy.

thinking I might need to prop down a bit to get a better hole shot. Was running about 65 at 4800 rpm. Engine couldn't get over 5,000rpm.

I had some trouble with the idle? So I turned the screw a few times and that fixes it.

I will post the video as soon as I figure out how to.
