    Merc 175 efi prop question

Ok so I bout an 02 nitro 882 with a merc 175 efi
all I can get is about 64 out of it
it has a 25 pitch trophy plus four blade
max rpm's I've hit has been about 5200
haven't measured prop to pad yet
    too much prop?

Also so what should this thing idle at? I am 800-900 but it seems like it goes into gear a bit hard
maybe I'm just not used to it

any info would be greatly appreciated
    thanks !

Do you have a water pressure gauge? Also where are you bolted up at as in which holes in the mount are you using? Idle is about right

No reason ta treat it any different than any other "cookie cutter" bass boat for initial set up. Tweakin' can come later. First thing is water pressure gauge is a must have. Best ta lose tha Trophy for a 23 Tempest (a45 best if can find one) but in tha mean time work with ya got. 5200 is way low on rpm. Ya gotta get tha motor as high as ya can with tha stock gear case (wp gauge). With 8" offset you should be able ta "start" at 3 1/2" shaft center line.....I can pm ya a prop guys name and web site that should know pretty much what ya need. He's on Lake Fork and probably touched more of these things (all brands, shapes, sizes) than most. Plus he's also a pretty good boat racer......DSRA.

Oh yeah, 8 ta 900. Just "stab it like ya mean it"......

Ok now that we got some info on ur boat..... Tlwjkw is correct. In order to get your rig performing better you gotta get some of that motor out of the water. ALL bass boats Ive set up i start at 3 1/2"s below pad and go from there. The Trophy is a good prop just to much for your rig. A tempest will get you much better results. Ive done many many Nitro's and the 882 and the 892 like the Tempest props. Definately put a H2O gauge on it. The 25p Trophy does great on the 892's with a 200. Ur shorter and less ponies so borrow a 23 if ya can,get the motor at 3 1/2 below and start from there. Load your boat like you normly would and run it. Only jack the motor a 1/4 at a time and keep an eye on water pressure. Some of the Nitros I have done can run at 3 below some need 3 1/4. NO less than 15 on the pressure. You want to reach a happy medium for holeshot and WOT numbers.

That's why they don't have 200's,your gonna open up a new can o worms at 65+ with bad chine walk issues, on that funny pad, those boats have.

Yeah it gets a little squirrelly at 63. Hoping raising the motor and swapping the prop may improve that as well.

I have a water pressure gauge, I'll keep an eye on that. Now if I can find someone with a tempest I can try before I buy

Thanks for all the info guys
    I'll keep you updated
