That's easy to answer. Get a blower that comes on before you can hit the key. Or wire a safety switch to your hatch? No bilge blower is a good way to blow up a boat.

I think you can buy bilge blowers just about anyplace that sells boat stuff including Walmart? Most are 3in. or 4in dia. and use flex hose. It should have a timer setup that will not let you start the boat till it's done running.

You might also consider setting the blower up to run for the period of time the engine is running and for a period of time after engine shutdown. Because the engines sit in a confined space there is a large build up of heat immediately post shutdown. With our diesels we set them up on timers to run the blowers for 15 mins after engines are shut down.

The best and safest is to do both. After shutting down I would also raise the hatch.

Best to run all the time, keeps fresh air in the engine compartment all the time also reduces vapor lock.

at one time your boat had it, it is a requirement and not having one is very dangerous.
if the boat is insured and there is a claim relating to an engine fire or explosion it will be denied for not having the proper equipment- god willing no one gets hurt or killed

one side should be with a blower, one side should be left open, air in air out

if you have 4 vents and want to do 2 blowers thats fine

We usually use the blower for air extraction. So fresh air vented in at the front of the engine and vents at the rear with blowers to extract. This allows the fresh air to flow over the engine. We would set up with one for each engine.
