OK Guys Please help me understand what has been said. Does this mean that my 84 140 does not have tuned exhaust? I have not dropped the LU yet and these are new to me (always had Mercs or small OMCs) It is a bubble back. Thanks Gary

If you had a tuner on there I would be surprised. Apparently OMC didnt find then as essential as Mercury seems to.

My 140 is a 79 or maybe an 80, but it has a tuner on it.

I just looked at mine. It is a 79 ( 140ML79R ). The tuner has 323255 casting number on it if that helps any one.

The 323255 is not a megaphone, just an exhaust tube. Check out the factory parts list for a 77 140 and compare yours with the 77 part number: 321681 tuning megaphone.

I've heard tale of folks sawing these off to around 10" or so. Then it'd be a 'tuner'. Never tried it so's I dunno how good it works.
