    i hope its fichts

    any old ficht ppl around.
    my 01 225 was surging up to 3k+ rpms with no throttle, i read somewhere could be ruptured lift pump putting gas
    into the crankcase. $400 4 hrs later, new lift pump, seems to idle ok.
    test run soon, should that fix it?

    usually gas from a damaged diaphragm causes the motor to rev out of control then shut down suddenly with a flashing Check Engine light.

    Surging is often erratic fuel flow to the injectors and is tested using a vacuum and a pressure gauge along with clear gas line to show any air bubbles in or frothing of the fuel.

    ok, thx. ys, i would say more that a surge it was out of control. i had to power off or else...
    also it did cause a check light. just concerned because i dismantled the lift pump and the diaphrams
    looked good?.. thx for the reply

    My cousins did something similar at first it sounded like a cam then it went crazy revving and what not. It was the throttle position sensor.

    thx for the reply, i need to find out what the code was it threw, if possbl.
    it runs much better after the lift pump replcmnt, so hopefully that was it, but i will post the code if/when i find it........

    IF the CHECK ENGINE light flashes with the key ON and the motor will not crank over you have a code 57 error that needs a dealer with a laptop to clear and to inspect for a fuel leak or other problem that allowed high revs with the throttle closed.

    fyi, ended up replacing the fuel pump assmbly. also wasnt turning over right, tested and bad starter, starts like crazy now.
    so with new fuel pump/evap, tps and lift pump i should b good. test on the water nxt week, thanks for all the replies.....

    Hi, VST overflows into intake. Stuck float causes the motor to race on its own. You fixed it when you replaced the VST or fuel pump module.

    hmm, ran the boat a little yest, idled around then ran on plane for 5 min or so, runs and starts perfect.
    then while maneuvering around the dock it was trying to surge, i shutdown before any high rpms but
    it was acting the same. motor runs and starts much betr now with all the new parts.
    im thinking of chg back to the plat plugs, this surging didnt start until after i replaced with the
    iridiums, could they be messing with the ecm?.....thx for any help
