    unidentified power head

Does anyone know how to identify a powerhead by markings or numbers? The power head I have has no paint on it but the heads and the intake are black. Wondering if anyone knows where to find serial numbers or other markings that might identify what I have?

Depending on what motor it is, sometimes the top of the freeze plug has the serial number. Or you can look where the two halves of the block meet. Don't go off the serial number on the midsection as those parts are interchangeable and have their own serial number. Once you find it, go to mercury marine website parts catalog and enter the serial number there to see what you've got.

Thank you Tony for the information. In looked at my block and found on the top in what looks like a freeze plug is stamped with 200. I also found on each side of the block a pair of numbers. Do you know where I could find out what they mean?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, go to the mercury marine USA website and go to the parts catalog. When you enter the serial number you should get a description of the engine.

Unpainted with tha 200 stamped in it more that likely its gonna be a 2.4 "oval port"........Tha early hot rods had a letter and six numbers. Usually but not always stamped on tha port side "block" flange......Kinda remember tha late 80's started with a "B".....But there are probably several "replacement" blocks that might still be out there that will not show a real serial number..........

Probably a shot in tha dark but does tha clamp still have tha tag with a serial number on it? If so, what is it?
Single ram or 3 ram trim?

Yes that tag is still on there.it was on a three ram trim but not any more. The numbers I found didn't come up on any web sites that I looked at. The numbers I found is
Port side on the other is
    4437
    6397 1. 6314 1
Does that look right to anyone? Thanks for all the help

Those are no good. It will be a letter (probably a B or C) followed by six digits.......Don't think any of tha hot rods came out with tha production (3 ram) clamp so no help there anyway.....Even though its an "unpainted" block its still basically just a 200 block. Don't think there was any "porting" difference that I can remember. Mighta been a tad bit with tha exhaust. Just can't remember for sure..........
