2014 Checkmate Pulsare 2400 top speed help...
Hello fellas... First post here(great site!). I just bought a 2014 Checkmate Pulsare longdeck from Dean at Checkmate. (Pics from Miami boat show below)

I was Looking for some guidance here regarding its top speed as I was told that it was a 73-74 mph boat from the factory. It has a 300XS on it with a 4 blade Trophy Plus (25 pitch- I think) prop. Motor is "broken in" now...with about 13 hours on it...and I can only seem to hit 63-65mph (gps)... With me and girlfriend...and a 1/2 tank of gas in it...with ideal (smooth) water conditions. I Live in Ohio, so altitude shouldn't be an issue.
After doing a fair bit of searching/reading on the Pulsare 2400 and watching "Wildmans" videos on this boat, 73-74mph seems consistent.... So I am scratching my head a little as to why I am 10mph down on that.
Any suggestions? Seem right? Prop change suggestions? Motor still need more time? Any magic pixie dust?

Here's what I've found: 19" setback, 2.5"-3" below on prop shaft, 28 Bravo one labbed or 27 tempest worked gets me 78.1. Usually runs 75-76 w/2. 25 trophy with 5 people, full tank and 3 Ice chests I've seen 70. Hope this helps.

Appreciate the guidance.... Certainly gives me a blueprint to work from.
3 quick follow-ups, and Based on your experience:
1. Does moving from my current 10" Jack plate to the 19" that you suggest make a measurable difference? (Sounds like answer is YES). Also, any stress issues on the back of boat running that much setback?
2. The 28 Bravo or 27 Tempest that you mentioned... Are those 3 or 4 blade?
3. I will have to measure how far below my prop shaft is... It's however it came from factory(no idea). Do you recall what yours was "before" you adjusted to 2.5 - 3"?
I hope with these changes it will start to close the gap a little here.

1. Never ran it with 12" setback. Did run it with 17" than 19" and didn't notice that much of a difference between the two. No stress issue on transom.
2. Bravo 1 and Trophy is a 4 blades and Tempest is a three blade. Four blades bite better but the three blade has a little more top end I found.
3. No I have no idea how it was from factory. Started around 3" and went up from there.
These are my findings and I'm sure someone else will have some other props they have ran with success.-Past:

For some reason, nobody has asked you what kind of RPMs you're running with your current prop. That's actually pretty important.
Another thing that comes into play - and is much harder to quantify - is how much trim you're using to get your current speed and RPM numbers. Most Checkmates that I've driven seem to like a good deal of positive trim to wring out every last MPH. Driving a boat with a lot of positive trim takes some practice though. I can tell you that the last 10 MPH or so in my boat is all done with trim.1992 Progression 22

TooStroked- I believe I am somewhere around 5600-5700rpm. Regarding trim...fair question. I am new to non-jet boats. However, I have been playing with it quite a bit and feel fairly confident that I have found the sweet trim spot right, and right be it starts to throw some pretty big rooster tail..and starts to slow.
I am starting to wonder if this is truly a mid 70's boat as described. I don't kind tweaking and tuning a little....but 10 mph is ALOT to make up.
