My Grandad and his buddy racing 15' checkmate

I started a checkmate project recently and my grandad (Bill Markey) sent me some old pictures he had of him racing a checkmate back in the 70s. It had a merc I6 tower of power on it, and he said it ran 76mph. I think he said the name was rebels revenge or Dixie's revenge or something like that. Any of the racers from back then remember this boat?

I remember Bill and that boat. It was an FS class boat which is why the two seats and off center steering. FS class was quite popular in this area back then. I worked at Action Marine and we built a copy of that boat. We built several boats for that class. For FS class we had to almost double the layup in order to make the boats heavy enough to make weight limit without exceeding the ballast limit. A good running FS could run in excess of 70 but they almost all had a problem with prop blowout at speed. We spent a lot of time trying to correct this problem. I ran two races in FS one as passenger and one as driver.

that's cool stuff man. my dad dropped the ball so I'm hoping to bring the Markey name back to what it was in the boating community.
