I presume the leak is either the input shaft or shifter if leaking when laying on it's side. Keep in mind a leak can let water in and might go undetected till to late.
I would sure want to know just what or where a leak is before dismissing it.

Oh yeah I agree. It was coming from the back of the prop. I've been watching it for the past few days there has been no further sign.

I will continue to keep and eye on it and will replace the gearbox oil before heading out if there is still no further sign of leaking.

That's a good point, whilst the cylinders weren't firing they would have just pumped the assembly lube out the exhaust and not burnt it.

That would account for that and would be why its no longer doing it.

If it is an upper seal and it was laid over the oil could be in the case as well.

Ditch the choke solenoid and choke plates and install an OMC primer solenoid. Much better system and it will breath a little better with the choke plate removed.

That is something I will be doing in the next few months. I have not seen an OMC primer with 3 outlets, I have one with two outlets that was listed for the V6s, Is this correct that they use numerous Tees in the system?

That's maybe a future update. I want to get them on the boat and running. When I do it both motors will be done together. There's a few bucks required to purchase those primers.

I prefer merc primers, much smaller, lighter, easier to mount. Only has 1 outlet, nothing a little creative plumbing can't solve.........

Hi Yamaha experts, i just took my boat out and ran the new 225, on the way out it ran beautifully with heaps of power and almost scary acceleration.
We arrived at the bait grounds and the motor was idling for a while and had a significant amount of smoke coming out of the exhaust, running pre mix while breaking it in, the old 150 is alsomusing this fuel mix. I shut them both down and we started fishing. After about an hour I start both motors up, moving off the 225 would not go and it shutdown. This kept happening and I eventually gave up on it.

I got the boat home and flushed both motors and the 225 fired up and seem to rev up normally.

I'm going to check the plugs incase it oiled up the plugs. Has anybody else encountered a similar issue with these motors? I need a place to start.

I'm going to top up the tank and try again this weekend.

Only thought I have is if an alarm such as in the oil system might be limiting the engine to 2K revs or such.

It wouldn't even get to 2000.
I will check the plugs, check the fuel pumps and filter and try again.
I'm glad it has 2 motors on it as it takes the stress out of it.

Instead of polluting your engine with OMC parts, get a primer valve from a 225 Excel.

Put the boat in the water again this weekend. As per last time the engine ran great for the run out. After an hour of fishing fired it up and it was misbehaving again, would rev past 1300rpm if pushing throttle slowly. Tried again but pushed the throttle forward quickly and it took off. Seems to have a dead spot from 1200 - 2000 after that it runs OK.

Obviously have a carb issue and I put it down to 1 of 2 issues:
    . Running rich down low
. fuel starvation when transitioning from idle jet to main jet.

Has anybody else had a similar issue?

On the plus side had a great days fishing.

    Cheers
    Jason
