getting title for boat that come from a state that only does registration card

Want to buy a boat but it only has a registration card no title as the state it comes from doesn't do them.

I own home in PA & NJ and can register boat in either. Any easier in PA or NJ?

    What is the process?

Where can I search to see if boat has a lien?

If the state of registration does not title, like TN, GA, etc., all you need is a bill of sale and the registration card. Make sure that the reg. card is signed by the former owner if there is a signature line. Your state may require that the bill of sale be notorized so check with your Dept. Of Natural Resources or whatever the agency name is. Should all be no problem. Good luck.

I think it's the dept of : Alcohol , Tobacco and Firearms

Sounds more like a convenience store , than a Gov agency ..

States like Ga. have a bill of sale form you can download from DNR. In Ga., you have to have one, along with the registration. They're pretty lax here.

Glenn when I bought my challenger from new york all I had was a registration and a letter from the seller. I think mv gave me a form they said I had to have the seller sign and possibly notarize. Of course I wasnt driving back up there so some creative license was taken.

I bet Pa. is easier than Jersey. Call DMV and see what you need, the only trouble is when you go to sell it, if you are unable to put it in your name. What are you getting??
