225 promax squeal at idle.
I just went out for my first run this weekend with my newly rigged '97 promax and I must say I love the motor. Runs strong, starts at the flick of they key and sounds amazing. I put a tank of gas through it and mostly just tooled around with a few runs north of 6k. I noticed a squealing noise only at idle that got louder throughout the day until by the end I could no longer tell myself it was just in my head. Any thoughts on what this might be? It's only noticeable at idle.

Tough to diagnose a noise over the Internet. Be safe, have someone look at it & listen to it. You don't need to be chasing down false leads.

I'm wondering if the flywheel is slightly loose. Previous owner put all new electronics on it before I got it including the stator which means they would have to have had it off.

Just like idvette says! Do not continue to run it.. Would be smart to pull the flywheel off.. Easy to do with the correct tools. I have seen the stator screws come out and rub the flywheel.. but you need to find it before you run it anymore. I would pull the flywheel first thing after you mentioned new electronics... red flag! Stator screws... maybe? And in case it is I always put those back in with Blue Loctite (just a little drop on the end of the thread) and do not over tighten them and strip the threads out of the top bearing retainer. I get one of those now and then also..

Thanks for the suggestion's guys.
I won't run it at the lake again until the noise is gone at idle. I'm going to pull the flywheel as suggested and look for anything loose/rubbing. Failing that I'll likely take it to my local speed shop.1989 21' Skater - twin 2.5s

Nailed it.
Top bearing wasn't getting proper oil. We caught it before it wrecked anything and had the top bearing changed. A clear oil feed line has been added like a 260 and she is getting adequate lubrication now. I ran it hard on the weekend and there were no issues. Thanks for the help.1989 21' Skater - twin 2.5s

Yep I got a crank laying on my shop floor under a table with same issue only the guy didn't catch it until too late... Ruined that crank... Glad you caught yours before it was too late.
