    Need outboard advice! 1980 Baja 20BR w/ Merc 225

    I am a relative newbie looking for some advice. I have a 1980 Baja 20BR, an open bow 20.5'. It has a Merc 225 2.4L of the same vintage, but it has a knock. Investigating found that there is some pitting in some of the lower unit gears, but it seems the knock is coming from play between the driveshaft and crankshaft. I've never noticed any issues during operation and it has always run strong. Finding parts for this motor seems to be a challenge and I'm not sure what to do.

    Rebuild? - cost 2-3k?
    Buy a used or rebuilt 200-225HP motor? $5k - $8k
    Buy a 2013 Evinrude Etec 225HP with 80hr and 5yr warranty? $11k

    Will a new 225HP be too much for my older Baja?
