outboard choice v-king
Hey guys so im trying get some impute on outboards for my 79 v king. The boat may have 3 to 4 people on board so weight is a concern. I was gearing toward the evinrude etec 200 because of its fuel economy and weight. However its weight compared to other manufacturs is light, but compared to the older v6 that most people use it’s its heavy , I just don’t want to see it on the bottom

I your only concern is, will it sink? It will hold a 200 Etec with no problem.

Do they still have the 60 degree V6 200s? That would be the one to use, IMO.

If I had the money, there would be a 300XS on the back of my V-King. I run a 225 Opti on mine now and it has no problem with it, even when loaded with 4 people.

Call Hamer Bay or Roy Lewis if looking for an Etec. You might consider the 150 HO. It has stiffer mounts and a better gear case then the small block 200. Easier to insure too. The 150HO is down a few ponies vs the 200, but not 50. The BRP reps at the TO boat show always tell me the 150HO would better for my Ally then their 200s.
We bought our 115HO from Hamer Bay. Great to work with and the motor is awesome.
The Merc 175XS would be a good choice but the pricing seems stupid in Canada. The Merc 175 XS and 150XS are a bit stronger than the regular motors and have better mounts.
The Merc racing 200XS would be ideal. Expensive, hard to find and no warranty. Ideal except for the details

And if your boat has the original floor, core, and transom, forget all this

You could call Top Gun. He often has used V6 engines and is in your area.

If you ever rode in a Vector or V-King with a big block for power you wouldn't care how high the bow pointed. The torque makes the boat accelerate like you have two 2.5 motors on it.
