Trying to find reputable rebuilder for mercury 2.4 bp
I have a 1989 Mercury 2.4 bp efi needing a rebuild. It is on an 1985 sleekcraft. There is a metal sounding clatter around 3000 rpm that goes away around 4000 rpm and is very slow coming out of the hole. Would like to do some mods to the motor. Boat will be used some for tubing and water skiing but mostly for playing on the water.Needing to find a good marine mechanic. I live in east Texas area but willing to ship to someone if I need to. Any suggestions on modifications to look into for this motor would be welcomed. Thanks in advance for the help.

I had seen some of Jay Smith's post. I had called him today about noon and he told me he did not work on the 2.4 bridgeport. So that is why I am posting on here.
Thank you for your response Michael

Jay Smith is in East Texas and is one of the best.

Check with Paul Nichols in Soddy Daisy Tennessee. He's super busy right now, but he's a good Merc guy, and his machinist is awesome.
Nichols Outboard is his business.
Tell him Lockjaw sent you. LOL!!

Some of the parts for Bridgeports are no longer available and have to be fabricated but we do it regularly . We however have about a 3 week backlog. If you like give us a call at 850-527-7817. Shipping from Texas to us should run under $100.00 each way. Glad to help if we can.

Make sure that whoever does your work, doesn't talk you into cutting on your block. This will only take you backwards for your application.
Make friends with someone who is really good at tuning to extract the most out of your set-up.
