1982 Action Marine 21 Center Console

Got a new addition to the family. Took me literally two months to do it, but I finally brought home a 1982 21 Center Console Action Marine. Have not had a lot of time to get into it. But it has a Black Max 200 Mercury on a hydraulic jack plate. Serial Numbers for the motor are 5465262. An idea what year this would be or how I can find out would be appreciated. It is carbed. Need to put a battery in it and see if I can breath life into the beast. Driving down the highway I had leaves, twigs and branches flying out of the car from where it was stored. More to follow.

    Action 21

No, just one. The other one went to my brother in law, Nicks uncle. So now we have 3 collectively. All works in progress. You guys build bad ass boats. I just am too old to drive the 17's and 18's. Hopefully atleast one of them will be at the Keys run. Tom

    1982 Action

Guy I bought it from bought it from was the original owner. He said your dad built it for him and he lived in Deerfield Beach. Going to post up more pics soon. He had the original cushions, vinyl hatch covers and a rear splash well cover. Found out the motor info.

Nice, saw that one on Craig's List! Would you tell us what you ended up getting it for? I ran that serial number, it does not come up on Merc Net, check the numbers and be sure. The serial number range for the V-200 starts at 5624878. Looks like a good project!

Less than he wanted and more than I wanted to pay. It took two months of trying to get pics, see the boat and then found out there was no title. It all worked out in the end and I am happy with the outcome. I did not think that he wanted to sell it. The boat had debris in it, big branches and mold. The boat had so much leaves inside of it that I assumed it was trashed and soft. After driving for an hour at 60 and then cleaning and bleaching the boat it is actually pretty solid. No soft spots so far. I cannot access the front since there is a glassed in storage area under the front hatch. I plan to cut that open to atleast get a view of the stringers. I just have not had time to work on it since I brought it home. Hopefully next week I can get some more pics and time in the boat.

ID:	293772Took some more pics. Slowly cleaning it up. I need to remove the saddle tanks and check the main tank for crud. Posting pics for reference on these boats. I do not think I have seen two alike. Not sure if this is the original console, if they came with saddle tanks etc...

By dating some of the console rigging & other particulars, I would say someone put some work into it, say...in the mid-80's. The engine cowls are '84-'85ish brown stripes, while the engine serial number comes up a 1980 & 81 V-200, which was what we used to call a 200/200, as to not be confused with the 200/225 of that same era. The V-200 was a vertical reed, 2.4(142 cu.in.) chrome-bore engine. It was a good engine in its day. Yes, that looks to be the original console, which was a common design in that boat & others back then.

ID:	293862Motor is pretty clean. Someone told me it has an offshore trim. It is a 80/81 2.4 according to the serial numbers.

Yes, thats what year I said it was. That is...if you took those serial numbers off of the side of the clamp bracket. The powerhead photos reveal some irregularities though. Those air intake silencers(attentuator) did not come on vertical reed motors, nor did those one-piece cylinder heads, in 1980 or '81. Very possible its a parts motor from back in the day. The single-ram clamp bracket was standard fair on all V-6's, no matter the horsepower,(Hi-Perf Offshore motors included) from 1979 through 1983, so this would be period correct for that engine. Everyone later tagged it the "offshore" clamp bracket, because the newer "intregal trim" clamp bracket, which became standard on all production V-6's in 1984, was still coming on all the Hi-Perf. Division "Offshore" motors. And then again, there are some other parts/pieces that would come only on your year motor though, in the photos. Like mentioned previously, the boat looks like it went through a re-rig, mid-80's sometime.

If you really feel the need to look further into the motors identification/history, you can compare all three of its serial numbers. One is located on the port(left) side of the clamp bracket, stamped onto an aluminum riveted plate, if its still there. The second one is stamped onto a welch plug, on the very top rear of the block. The third serial number is stamped on the lower port side of the block, where the front crankcase half & the block, are bolted together, on a small flat area Merc tooled into the side. Very common, even back then, for powerheads & other parts to be swapped around & replaced.
