Was around 1973 that Rod QUAIFE came out with the two speed box. He said it would get me off the line quicker and it would be good for offshore.
Rod sadly died some time ago, but I understand his son still does competition gearboxes for everything, cars motorcycles. Just wonder if he ever did anything with the outboard version?

Asked Mark to take an urgent piccy of the gearcase on the Cosworth. Mind you ,that was only on friday, and and urgent means some time before the end of the year.
He remembers i had three gearcases, a long nose marathon, a short one for sprints and a spare. Reckons they were all SSM. 1, but much modified by the team at Cosworth.
If and when ,he sends the piccies , ill post em here for you all to comment on.

...the MC-1 would have been the only unit that would have survived the inboard power & torque that you had in the boat. actually, i am a bit surprised that the older alpha upper & wishbone & transom plate would take the power it did. do you still have all three original gearcases, or just the one on the boat now?

Sadly, just the one thats on the leg. Think i still have the mutilated prop that Hetzel cobbled for Parker
Never had a breakdown of any description with the alpha unit. Cosworth did replace the stubby drive with a quill shaft which worked fine.

I think the resemblance to the driver is uncanny.

    Question for Rich !
Is the NGK series using the F1 V8 Mercury Race Engine or not next year?
Uim, have announced its adopting the motor for the 2021 season.
Just seems a tad strange, that There’s been no mention of it happening in the USA .
There will have to be a rethink on the design and construction of F1 boats. (Please don’t give me all that crap about very little weight difference, so there shouldn’t be much modification needed)
i would imagine Theres going to have to be lots of R&D in the boats , let alone the motors.
What’s the betting there Wont be an offshore class one , fifty foot tunnel, with four of those mothers on its bum!

I think there is a better chance the Schuberts Texas F1 will over power it, 2.5 fishing engine with carbs, certainly has more potential as a long lived class.
They have done this in OZ
nothing wrong with the old 2.0 F1 carby engine class, I guess it was Merc that decided you couldnt have it any more?

It’ll have to be a whole lot better than a 2.5 fishing motor to hold up to the V8. You missed the point totally Pilgrim. Seems ridiculous to me that the US is producing a new racing four stroke motor ———- two strokes are banned from the water worldwide,
We always thought the two stroke F1 motor was a DUESEY . but its not made anymore, totally illegal any time soon, Talk about flogging a dead horse.
So who are going to blame Trump or Mercury ?

nobody has banned 2 strokes, the E-tec is way cleaner than todays 4 stroke, the fake news doing well, Japs got no technology and Merc gave up as the e-tec is the only solution but BRP dont seem to want license it, still selling in skidoos and soon to exist in the new BRP boat powertrain.

Why would you need a hold up to the new 4 stroke F1 v8 engine, heavy, low output per ci, and a same price as a Corvette, yeps its a winner?
It was boat racing wasnt it?
Once the cowl is on the spectators dont know what under it.
