Tricks that old racers get up to after retirement

The diesel Tiguan is fine on a Motorway. It is gutless uphill with any kind load and the throttle response is poor and unpredictable. Several times when I was merging into a roundabout it laid down on me. All of a sudden I was a sitting duck. Very embarrassing. I also found the posted speed limits on the smaller roads a bit ambitious. Up and down hills and around blind curves on very narrow roads and posted at 100k.

You mean the “FACETIOUS” signs———- 100 kph uphill—— round a bend—- when it’s raining?
Irish are good at that !
Think you must have been landed with a “FRIDAY AFTERNOON” Tiguan—— better luck next time !

Tech Team—— thanks for the piccie of a Cosworth V8 motor——-turns out its an Indy 1960’s lump—— but only a demo publicity show motor ——- most of the vitals are missing and it’s not a motor you can “detune”. But thanks for your help—- much appreciated.

Still got the dreaded lurgy and spent the last four days in bed. Did get up for a couple of hours yesterday. Not eating at all, so I must be losing weight.
i have to feel a lot better than this for Friday—— or I won’t be going to the FOS at Goodwood!
Looks like the Geico crew left For Sarasota already.
Over half way through the racing season—— time flies whether you’re having fun or not—— time whistles inexorably away——- its what happens.
with a bit of luck there should be half a dozen of the ten available P1 boats running in Sarasota——- all with the V8 300’s for power!
USA ladies footy team are through to the word cup final——they beat England in the semifinal 2-1 .
They were the better team on the night———- it wasn’t pretty—— but they won, and that’s the only thing that counts.
English girls need to be more clinical and cynical in today’s world.

Verstappen using an Aston Martin motor won the Austrian Grand Prix——- Le Clerc came second——- Ferrari haven’t won a race in almost a year in spite of getting most of the F1 millions—— protesting every decision the stewards ever made, instead of just getting on with what they used to do best——— RACING.
F1 needs a Ferrari win before long———- but Vettel keeps getting it wrong——- Le Clerc has the car and the backing along with the ability———- but the one thing daddies millions can’t buy is —— EXPERIENCE,
Be interesting to see if Hamilton stays with Mercedes——— Or gets to be the greatest driver of all time from the Ferrari garage——- to me at least —- its a no brainer——- Ferrari NEED Lewis—— they simply cannot afford to let Mercedes field the greatest driver of all time !!!
Only way to stop him is to shoot him———- don’t know if there’s any truth in it——— but I did hear that the Italian government owned Fiat, FIAT owned Ferrari and the MAFIA owned THE GOVERNMENT,
What do I know anyway——- just an old fart—— stuck to his bed for a few days —- with feck all else to do but” Cogitate” .

Happy Fourth of July to all my colonial friends—- thank you for being my friend—- through the good and the bad times ——- I know I’m not the easiest person to get along with—— in spite of everything, you were always there.
Most of the time we disagreed (preferred to differ) !
Another year has passed along with a few of the “Old Farts” including Sirois and Bakos —— the band of good guys is diminishing faster than I care to think about.
So, one and all—- enjoy the fourth—-it’s a reward for effort—— enjoy it whilst you can, allow me to enjoy it with you!

Tomorrow is the first day of the FESTIVAL OF SPEED—— Daughter Sam, husband Clive and I, will be off the start blocks around —-6:30 am.
Why so early ? —— Goodwood is less than a mile from Chichester—— which is somewhat difficult to navigate due to “mitigating circumstances”—— ?
IE : No by-Pass—— Some twenty five roundabouts on a very dated ring road———- so, from 6:00 in the morning —until midnight—— it’s chaos every day!
Add to that the annual FOS ——- which attracts some 500,000 visitors over the three day period and you have GRIDLOCK,
Thats the reason we leave early——— the six minute journey to Goodwood will still take thirty minutes—— even at that time of day.
Found the guy with the DFV’s—— meeting him in the morning at the HILL CLIMB. He’s got Duckworth’s boy Roger there——- that will be some meeting!
Let you know how the day goes come Saturday—— I’m still bed bound—— but I’ve got AMBITION!

Jackie. In my recent travels I noticed a trivial but interesting item. Trailer hitches are all one piece. The ball and drawbar appear to be either cast or forged in one piece. Very artistic.

Good to see lots of correspondence on the old “Tricks” site —— thanks to everyone who took part .
No time in the morning —— will be a full 24 hrs before I can get to you again.

Sad to report there was no NGK stand at Goodwood—— which meant no NGK girls or Camel Toes !
Tried very hard to find something feminine you Old Farts might be just the slightest bit interested in—— nothing !
However—— all was not last—- caught up with Keith Duckworth’s Son Roger—— VERYINTERESTING—— as the story goes!
Told me he has his own business, .
and was in the “electric motor field”———- working with a company that wished to remain anonymous ?????—- motor is 8”x6”x4”—— weighs in at under forty pounds—— produces a constant 125 horsepower ( without overheating ) .
Now, my slightly muddled brain gets to thinking ——- imagine a SEAGULL. CENTURY PLUS WOrlds BEST SELLING FISHING MOTOR ——- produces no hp but propels ? Comes in around fifty pounds ?...

All the worlds Outboard manufactures are taking V8 automotive motors weighing in at God Only knows what! Sticking them on a leg and trumpeting it from the housetops ——- we have 5/6/700 horsepower “ OUTBOARD” ——- which in truth, is a thirsty car engine——- stuck on a leg —— and called an Outboard.!!!!!!!

Now—— lets go down a different road——- ELECTRIC——- total motor —— with all the bits under the hood——- comes in around 100 lbs———- belt drive or shaft drive—— ( optional) mid section ——- saltproof “Mertanium” ——-Automatic ten speed gearbox driving a TITTERMERCAMANIUM —- bombproof prop.
Take your pick——- 100—— 1,000—horsepower——- under 300 lbs ———- an outboard motor for all purposes ——- all seasons .
Makers change your ways today—— or with us you will ride—— trying to flog those huge V8’s across these endless skies——- Usual apologies of course,!

Just as an afterthought——— batteries would be around a thousand bucks apiece——— but—— what the hell—— never ever was such a thing as a free meal !
